2013 Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectionals
March 9-10, 2013
Allentown, PA - Smyrna, TN - Fairview Heights, IL - Las Vegas, NV
Each March, college bowling teams compete in regional qualifying tournaments known as "sectionals" for a chance to hoist the Kerm Helmer Cup at the renowned Intercollegiate Championships in April. The USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships (formerly the Intercollegiate Bowling Championships), first contested in 1975, is the pinnacle event of the college bowling season.
In order to compete at the Intercollegiate Team Sectional competition, an intercollegiate bowling team must become one of the top 80 men's or top 80 women's schools during the regular season to advance into post-season competition and participate in the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships ' Sectional Qualifying events. The first way a team advances to a sectional is by winning its conference. The remainder of the 64 and 64 team field is determined by the teams ranking in the Team Ranking System (TRS). The TRS ranks schools based on their performance in USBC Collegiate certified events. The sectional field will be assigned to one of the four sectional locations based on the TRS rankings and geographic location. Four Sectional Qualifiers will advance the top four finishers in each division to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships' 32-team field of 16 men's and 16 women's teams. The Intercollegiate Team Championships are traditionally held in April.
