Wichita women, Midland men capture titles at Collegiate Shoot-Out

LAS VEGAS - The Wichita State women's and Midland men's teams captured the titles at the 2013 Collegiate Shoot-Out at The Orleans on Saturday.

The victory for Wichita State marks the fourth-consecutive year the Lady Shockers have taken home the top spot at the Collegiate Shoot-Out. They paced the field by more than 400 pins with a winning total of 11,579, including bonus pins. Midland finished second (11,171) and Webber International ended up in third (11,068).

Wichita State also captured the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational earlier in the week.

The Midland men also cruised to an easy victory, finishing with a final total of 12,448, including bonus pins, to distance themselves from Webber International (11,933) by more than 500 pins Defending champions Wichita State finished third with 11,912.

Heather Melvin of Wichita State led the women's individual standings with 1,374 (229 average). Kamilah Dammers of Webber International finished second with 1,328, while Wichita State's Tannya Roumimper (1,289), Urbana's Brittany Crawford (1,283) and Cindy Gill of West Texas A&M (1,275) also finished in the top five.

Midland's Perry Crowell earned the top individual honors for the men, firing a 1,450 six-game block (241.67 average) to surpass Michael Tang of San Jose State (1,439). Webber's Ramon Hilferink took third with 1,404, while Marian's Zack Hattori (1,401) and San Jose State's Darren Tang (1,394) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
