Nebraska wins 2015 Prairie View A&M Invitational

ARLINGTON, Texas - Nebraska earned its third consecutive Prairie View A&M Invitational title with a dramatic 4-3 win over top-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson University at the International Training and Research Center on Sunday.

2015PVINebraska200x200The Huskers piled on the strikes late in the finale to seal the 216-172 victory after Fairleigh Dickinson forced the deciding seventh game with 280-202 rout.

Nebraska entered the best-of-seven Baker match-play portion of the tournament as the No. 2 seed and claimed its spot in the championship match with a 4-0 win against Arkansas State. Fairleigh Dickinson, coming off a win at last week's Kutztown Invitational, earned its spot in the final with a 4-1 win over Central Missouri.

Arkansas State then topped Central Missouri, 4.5-1.5, in the match that determined third and fourth place.

The event featured nine of the top 10 teams in the most recent poll and a variety of exciting formats.

All 12 teams in the field bowled five five-game Baker matches Friday, five traditional team games Saturday and one additional team game Sunday morning before the march to the title resumed with the best-of-seven match-play brackets. Seeding was based on total pinfall from the 25 Baker games and six traditional team games.

Along with the Prairie View A&M Invitational trophy on the line, each match the teams bowled went toward their overall win-loss records for the 2014-15 bowling season, which helps determine the teams that qualify for the 2015 NCAA Bowling Championship being held in St. Louis in April.

Individually, Arkansas State's Sarah Lokker made light work of the 38-foot NCAA No. 2 oil pattern, averaging more than 245 during the weekend's six traditional games to take home most valuable player honors with a 1,474 total.

The former Team USA and Junior Team USA member was joined on the all-tournament team by Fairleigh Dickinson's Nicolette Sarin (1,435), Vanderbilt's Katie Stark (1,393), FDU's Melanie Hannon (1,364) and Mary Wells of Central Missouri (1,335).
