Zavjalova leads four events at Women's Championships

RENO, Nev. - A day after helping her team into the lead at the 2015 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships, Diana Zavjalova of Beavercreek, Ohio, maintained her momentum and finished her tournament debut with the lead in four events.
The 23-year-old right-hander started Sunday by teaming with Team USA member Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, New York, to set the number to beat in Diamond Doubles with a 1,356 total. McEwan, a two-time USBC Team USA Trials champion, led the duo with 687, while Zavjalova added 669.
Zavjalova, the 2013 USBC Queens champion, continued strong in singles, recording games of 228, 258 and 248 for a Diamond Singles-leading 734 series. The effort also catapulted her into the lead in Diamond All-Events with 2,102. McEwan moved into second place with 2,079 after sets of 760 in team and 632 in singles.
At the National Bowling Stadium on Saturday, the duo helped East Coast of Palm Harbor, Florida, to the early lead in Diamond Team with 2,588. Zavjalova contributed a 699 series.
"I feel great," said Zavjalova, the 2014 XBowling Intercollegiate Singles Championships winner. "I just tried to bowl my A game - just keep it simple. It worked fine today."
No bowler in tournament's 96-year history has won four titles in a single tournament. Six bowlers have captured three crowns during the same year, with the most recent being Lindsay Boomershine of Brigham City, Utah, who won Scratch Doubles and Scratch All-Events, and claimed a co-championship in Diamond Doubles, at the NBS in 2012.
Zavjalova, who was a collegiate standout at Webber International, now will have to wait until June 30 to see if she has left her mark in the tournament's record books.
The 2015 Women's Championships kicked off April 10 and, before it concludes, more than 16,000 bowlers, including last year's champions, will make their way to Reno.
In 2014, the Diamond Division saw USBC Hall of Famer Lynda Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, claim two titles, helping Bowlieve In A Cure of Arlington, Texas, to the Diamond Team crown with a 2,819 total on her way to the Diamond All-Events title with 2,140. Her effort included a perfect game during doubles.
Fellow hall of famers Jeanne Naccarato of Tacoma, Washington, and Robin Romeo of Newhall, California, earned the Diamond Doubles title with a 1,479 total. Naccarato also achieved perfection at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on the way to the win.
Tournament newcomer Danielle van der Meer of Washington, Illinois, made the most of her first Women's Championships appearance, taking home the Diamond Singles title with a 751 set.
