USA boys take gold, girls earn silver in team at PABCON

The Junior Team USA boys put on another stellar performance to win the team gold medal Thursday, while the U.S. girls took the silver at the 2015 Pan American Bowling Confederation Youth Championships in Panama.

Kamron Doyle, Wesley Low, Michael Tang and Greg Young combined for a six-game total of 5,487 (228.63 average) to easily outdistance the field in Panama City.

Low, who also earned the all-events gold medal, fired 1,440 to lead the team and was followed by Tang (1,372), Young (1,342) and Doyle (1,333).

Costa Rica earned the silver medal with 5,173, while Canada took the bronze with 5,103.

On the girls side, Junior Team USA nearly pulled off a huge comeback in the final game but fell just short as Colombia won the gold medal with 4,826.

The U.S. team finished with 4,810 as Breanna Clemmer shot 1,286, Sydney Brummett had 1,204, Stephanie Schwartz fired 1,195 and Gazmine Mason had 1,125.

Trailing by more than 160 pins going into the final game, Junior Team USA fired 867 the last game, while Colombia managed just 719. The Colombians got just enough in the final frame to earn the gold medal.

The all-events standings were also finalized Thursday and the Junior Team USA boys finished first, second, third and fourth.

Low earned the gold medal with a 24-game total of 5,707 (237.79 average), Tang took the silver medal with 5,564 and Doyle fired 5,530 for the bronze medal. Young finished fourth with 5,406.

Colombia's Laura Plazas edged Mason for the gold medal by just four pins. Plazas had a 24-game total of 5,009 (208.71 average), while Mason earned the silver with 5,005. Canada's Mykaela Mitchel took the bronze with 4,966.

Schwartz finished fifth with 4,910, Clemmer was sixth with 4,906 and Brummett was eighth with 4,782.

The PABCON Youth Championships, which features teams from the American Zone, awards medals in six events - singles, doubles, trios, team, all-events and match-play Masters.

The event continues today with the match-play Masters event.
