Collegiate Ticker - Sept. 23, 2015

The Urbana men and Wright State women took home titles from the Racers Classic as the 2015-16 USBC Collegiate season rolled into action last weekend.

Top-seeded Urbana edged Lawrence Tech by a single pin, 374-373, to capture the men's title at Westgate Lanes in Lima, Ohio, after leading qualifying with a 9,100 total. Lawrence Tech defeated Notre Dame-Ohio, 391-368, to advance to the championship match.

Urbana's Kyle Mayberry paced the field with a six-game total of 1,362 (227 average) to earn individual honors. Jeff Wallace of Notre Dame-Ohio (1,326) and Dionte Johnson of Davenport (1,237) finished second and third, respectively.

On the women's side, Wright State found itself down by 33 pins after the first game of the finals against Notre Dame-Ohio, but rallied to a 237 finish for a 388-381 victory. Wright State earned its spot in the title match after leading qualifying with 8,388, while Notre Dame-Ohio bested Northwestern Ohio, 352-339, to advance.

Wright State teammates Jessica Wolfe and Colleen Hines captured the top individual spots in the standings. Wolfe was the only bowler on the women's side to average more than 200 (1,217) on her way to the win as Hines (1,172) took second. Bowling Green's Kayla Meadows (1,165) finished third.

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:

- At the RC Warrior Fall Classic in Troy, Michigan, Youngstown State cruised to the victory by more than 300 pins in women's competition.
