Bowl for the Cure Fabulous Four essay contest is underway

ARLINGTON, Texas – For two consecutive years, the Bowl for the Cure® Fabulous Four essay contest has sent a group of four women on an exciting bowling adventure topped off by taking part in the United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships.

Not only is the Fabulous Four contest returning for another year, but the final stop of the ultimate bowling trip will be Las Vegas and the 2016 Women’s Championships at the new Bowling Plaza at South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa.

Bowl for the Cure® is a year-round fundraising initiative sponsored by USBC in partnership with Susan G. Komen®. The Fabulous Four essay contest is designed to raise awareness about breast cancer and help honor four remarkable women who have gone through a breast cancer diagnosis.

Angel Crosby of Garrett, Indiana, was one of last year’s Fabulous Four winners. The group helped kick off the 2015 Women’s Championships by throwing out the ceremonial first ball.

“It’s absolutely amazing,” said Crosby after bowling in the event. “It’s been a long road to get here, and I’m glad that I kept the fight. I wouldn’t change this for the world. I’m still in awe of everything that’s happened here, and for us getting to go out there and throw that first ball … that was a little scary, but I wouldn’t trade that for the world, either.”

This year’s Fabulous Four essay contest, open to women who have been impacted by breast cancer and/or have been involved in supporting the fight against breast cancer, is now underway. To enter, go to
BOWL.com/FabulousFour and submit an essay.

The essay submission period will close Dec. 16 with entries going to a special selection panel that will include previous Fabulous Four winners along with Susan G. Komen® and USBC staff. Contest winners will be announced in late January.

The Fabulous Four winners will receive a five-day trip that will start in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with a tour of Komen headquarters and a special celebration dinner. The group also will go the International Bowling Campus in Arlington for a tour of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, and then receive lessons from the Team USA staff at the International Training and Research Center.

The Fabulous Four’s trip then will head to Las Vegas for the 2016 USBC Women’s Championships, where the group will be honored and compete as a team in the opening squad.
