Bowl for the Cure to kick off Bowl Pink Hero campaign

ARLINGTON, Texas – October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Bowl for the Cure® will launch a new Bowl Pink® Hero campaign to recognize those in the bowling community who have supported the fight against breast cancer.

Bowl for the Cure®, a year-round fundraising initiative sponsored by the United States Bowling Congress in partnership with Susan G. Komen®, has made total contributions of more than $11 million to Susan G. Komen® since 2000.

The Bowl Pink® Hero campaign will focus on showcasing the work of associations, leagues, bowling centers and individuals who are doing more to support Bowl for the Cure® and raise awareness about breast cancer.

“The success of Bowl for the Cure® is because of the efforts of our bowlers and associations across the country,” USBC Executive Director Chad Murphy said. “They are the ones who put together the tournaments, silent auctions and other fundraisers, and it is because of their hard work and generosity that Bowl for the Cure® is able to raise awareness and contribute to the fight against breast cancer.”

For the month of October, Bowl for the Cure® is asking associations to start the Bowl Pink® challenge and set a goal of raising $500 in honor of Bowl for the Cure®. Donations can be mailed to USBC or sent online at BOWL.com/BFTC. To ensure your association’s donation is counted, please clearly mark all donations to USBC headquarters with your association name.

Also in support of the Bowl Pink® Hero Campaign, the USBC Bowling Store will have a new “Hero” collection of Bowl for the Cure® t-shirts and 25 percent of proceeds from Bowl for the Cure® merchandise sales will be donated directly to Susan G. Komen®.

Bowl for the Cure® also will bring back the Fabulous Four essay contest for a fourth consecutive year. The contest sends a group of four women on an exciting bowling adventure that includes taking part in the USBC Women’s Championships. Bowlers and non-bowlers from across the country will be able to share their story for a chance to win the all-inclusive experience of a lifetime which includes a trip to Dallas to visit Susan G Komen® headquarters and the International Bowling Campus before competing in the 2017 USBC Women’s Championships that starts in April in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
