Bowl for the Cure Fabulous Four Essay Contest returns

ARLINGTON, Texas – The opportunity to take part in an outstanding bowling adventure will take place once again as the Bowl for the Cure® Fabulous Four essay contest returns for its fourth installment.

Bowl for the Cure® is the year-round fundraising initiative sponsored by the United States Bowling Congress in partnership with Susan G. Komen®, and the Fabulous Four essay contest is part of Bowl for the Cure’s goal to raise awareness about breast cancer by honoring four women who either have gone through a breast cancer diagnosis or have been instrumental in helping support the cause and finding a cure.

In each of the past three years, the winners in the Fabulous Four essay contest had the opportunity to take an exciting bowling adventure that started at Susan G. Komen’s national headquarters in Dallas and concluded at the USBC Women’s Championships.

“We are proud to once again partner with Bowl for the Cure for the Fabulous Four contest.  It is a wonderful opportunity to honor those who have made a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer,” said Dr. Judy Salerno, President and CEO of Susan G. Komen. “USBC has been a dedicated partner through its Bowl for the Cure program for 15 years, and we look forward to honoring deserving women together for the fourth year in a row.”

This year’s Fabulous Four essay contest now is underway and will run through Nov. 21. The contest is open to women who have been impacted by breast cancer and entries can be submitted by going to BOWL.com/FabulousFour.

Winners will be determined by a special selection panel that includes previous Fabulous Four winners, along with Susan G. Komen® and USBC staff, and will be announced in January.

Marisol Guerrero of Rosenberg, Texas, who was a Fabulous Four winner last year, called the adventure “a dream come true!”

“I entered thinking I would never win, there are so many amazing survivor stories out there,” Guerrero said. “Well, when I won, I was shocked and blessed. The Bowl for the Cure Fabulous Four essay contest is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity … please don’t let it pass you by. Carpe diem!”

Each of the Fabulous Four winners will receive a five-day trip that starts in the Dallas area with a special day at Komen headquarters. The group then will head to the International Bowling Campus in Arlington to tour the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame before receiving lessons from the Team USA staff at the International Training and Research Center.

The Fabulous Four will be able to put the lessons to use when they head to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to help kick off and compete in the 2017 USBC Women’s Championships.
