Wichita State women, Webber International men win Collegiate Shoot-Out

LAS VEGAS - The Wichita State women and Webber International men claimed the top spots at the 2018 Collegiate Shoot-Out, a Tier I event in the 2018-2019 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season.

The event was held over two days at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino. The 27 women's and 36 men's varsity teams bowled six traditional games Wednesday and concluded competition Thursday with 16 Baker games.

Total pinfall for the event determined how many points teams received towards the Team Power Rankings. Placement in the Team Power Rankings will determine which teams compete in postseason play.

WichitaStateCS_2500The Wichita State women made their move to the top of the standings during Thursday's Baker competition, averaging more than 222 during the first half of the block on the way to 8,849 pinfall total.

The Shockers captured the first-place trophy at the Collegiate Shoot-Out for the ninth consecutive season with their win in 2018.

The Webber women finished second with 8,610 and were followed in pinfall by St. Francis-Illinois (8,437), Newman (8,419) and Midland (8,341).

WebberCS_2500The Webber men completed a dominating performance this week in Las Vegas on Thursday, claiming the top spot at both the Collegiate Shoot-Out and Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational, which took place Monday and Tuesday at the nearby South Point Bowling Plaza. The Warriors completed the sweep by finishing with a 9,481 pinfall total.

The win also marks the second consecutive year Webber has hoisted the Collegiate Shoot-Out trophy.

The William Penn men edged Calumet by a single pin to finish second in total pinfall with 9,067. West Texas A&M was fourth with 8,991, and Midland rounded out the top five with 8,965.

St. Francis-Illinois' Abby Ragsdale (1,268) and Webber's Matt Russo (1,422) earned the top individual honors Wednesday, posting the highest six-game totals in the women's and men's divisions.
