BillONeillInsideYork, Pa. –
Bill O’Neill of Langhorne, Pa., defeated Travis Celmer of Wernersville, Pa., 233-198, to win the Professional Bowlers Association East Region Bowlers Supply/Storm Products Cheetah Open at Colony Park Lanes North Sunday.

The title match, a re-match of last year’s finals, appeared headed toward a different result when Celmer began with five consecutive strikes. But O’Neill, who only threw one strike in the first half of the game, found the mark in the last half of the game while Celmer faltered with three consecutive splits. O’Neill collected $3,000 for his ninth career regional win. Celmer earned $1,600 as the runner-up.

In addition to his championship check, O’Neill earned the East Region’s fourth paid entry into the 2012 PBA World Series of Bowling as highest finisher among players who entered the region’s optional “animal pattern” championship series competition. O’Neill joins Brad Angelo of Lockport, N.Y.; Greg Ostrander of Freehold, N.J., and Joe Paluszek of Bensalem, Pa., as East Region animal pattern championship winners. Ryan Shafer of Horseheads, N.Y. earned the final East Region entry into the World Series of Bowling IV as the highest points earner in the four events.

The East Region returns to York, Pa. next weekend for the Colony Park Lanes Senior Open at Colony Park Lanes East.
