US Bowler writing contest winners selected

ARLINGTON, Texas - The winners in the two categories of the 2011 US Bowler Writing Competition have been selected.
The 60th annual contest, presented by the membership magazine of the United States Bowling Congress, featured news/feature and editorial categories. Three winners were selected in each category and each winner will receive a certificate suitable for framing and a paid one-year membership in the Bowling Writers' Association of America.
In the News/Feature category, for non-fiction stories concerning any individual, facility, equipment or organization related to tenpin bowling involvement, or coverage of a bowling tournament or event, the winners are:
- Daniel P. Smith, Bowling Center Management, for his article on how Title IX has driven the growth of NCAA women's bowling.
- Dennis Bergendorf, Bowlers Journal International, for his special report on the present and future of league bowling.
- Bob Johnson, Bowlers Journal International, for his feature on the bowling culture of Detroit.
In the Editorial category, for any opinion expressed in the media concerning a tenpin bowling-related subject, the winners are:
- Diandra Asbaty, Bowlers Journal International, for her column on the dreams of professional women bowlers.
- Roger Dalkin, Bowlers Journal International, for his column on bowling's "life cycle."
- Bob Johnson, Bowlers Journal International, for his column calling for ambidextrous equality in bowling.
To be eligible for the competition, articles must have been published between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2011. Materials that appeared in US Bowler, US Youth Bowler or on BOWL.com were not eligible.
