Carlson bowled with such famous Chicago teams as Pabst, Birk Bros., Joseph L. Gill and St. Paul Federal Savings. He was noted for the way in which he whipped the ball off a 2 1/2 step delivery. Carlson came to the United States in 1912 and started bowling a year later. In 1928, he defeated Charley Daw for the match game championship and defended successfully against fellow USBC Hall of Famer Walter (Skang) Mercurio before losing in 1929 to Joe Scribner.
