U.S. team sweeps team, all-events to conclude TOA

ARLINGTON, Texas - The U.S. swept the team and all-events gold medals as the 53rd Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas came to a conclusion Saturday in Sunrise, Florida.
The two-day team event consisted of four games Friday and an additional four games Saturday at Strikers Lanes with total pinfall determining medalists. The all-events totals consisted of 32 games including singles, doubles, mixed doubles and team competition.
Team USA members Erin McCarthy, Kayla Johnson, AJ Chapman and Chris Colella cruised to the Adult title with a 6,676 series. McCarthy also captured all-events gold in the Adult Women division with 6,431, while Chapman (6,917) and Colella (6,796) finished first and second, respectively, in Adult Men.
Julia Bond, Jadee Scott-Jones, Michael Coffey and Kenny Ryan represented the Junior Team USA contingent in the Junior A (ages 16-19) division, and took home team gold with 6,942. Bond won Junior A Women all-events with a 6,741 total, while Scott-Jones took silver with 6,307.
Coffey dominated throughout the week at Strikers Lanes, averaging nearly 235 on his way to the Junior A Men title with 7,517. Ryan earned silver with 6,721.
The Junior B (ages 12-15) U.S. team of Ashley Channell, Brogan Zengel, Cortez Schenck and Michael Schoerner posted a 6,149 total to capture gold. Channell (6,106) and Zengel (5,581) earned gold and silver medals, respectively, in Junior B Women all-events, while Schenck won gold in Junior B Men with 6,674. Schoerner took home a bronze medal with 6,298.
USBC Hall of Famer Tish Johnson joined Brenda Burns, Mark Porter and Craig Auerbach to help the U.S. win team gold in the Senior Division with 6,641. Johnson (6,429) and Burns (6,346) topped the standings in Senior Women all-events, while Porter (6,874) and Auerbach (6,607) did the same in Senior Men.
The U.S. Super Senior team titlist consisted of Sharon Powers, Kristy Whitcher, Clark Poelzer and John Katsaros, who combined for a 6,338 total for the victory. Powers captured the Super Senior Women all-events gold with a 6,048 total, while Whitcher finished third with 5,835. Poelzer (6,689) and Katsaros (6,063) finished in the top two spots of the Super Senior Men division.
The U.S. also swept the National All-Events titles in each division.
The 20-player U.S. squad was coached by Team USA associate coach Stephen Padilla and provisional coach Del Warren.
The Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas is the oldest annual international tournament in the American Zone. It is an invitational event for countries in the Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON), the American Zone of World Bowling, and featured players competing for medals in singles, doubles, mixed doubles, team and all-events.
