U.S. collects six gold medals in singles at 2016 TOA

ARLINGTON, Texas - The United States collected six of 10 singles gold medals Tuesday at the 54th Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The singles portion of the event included 12 games over two days at Strikers Family Sportscenter, with total pinfall determining the medalists. The U.S. contingent featured a total of 20 players.

Team USA's Josie Earnest cruised to the gold medal in the Adult Women's competition with a 2,548 total for her 12 games. Junior Team USA's Haley Richard captured the silver medal with 2,363.

Canada's Zach Wilkins won his second consecutive gold medal in the Adult Men's category, averaging more than 228 on his way to a 2,744 total. Team USA's Chris Via took home the silver medal with 2,589, while Junior Team USA's Thomas Peters finished sixth with 2,286.

Junior Team USA swept the gold medals in the Junior A (ages 16-19) division. Sydney Brummett won the girls' title with 2,519, while Hollyann Johansen earned silver with 2,380. Kenny Ryan posted the top score on the boys' side with 2,480, and Meeco Walker captured the silver medal with 2,412.

In the Junior B (ages 12-15) boys' division, Tom Hankey Jr. took home the gold for the United States by making his move in the final game with a 280 effort to finish with 2,431. His teammate, Jonathan Cummins, took silver with 2,312.

Puerto Rico's Sarah Sanes collected the gold medal in the girls' Junior B division with a 2,359 total. The United States' Danielle Jedlicki (2,245) and Katherine Corbin (2,081) took home the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

In the Senior and Super Senior categories, Pete Thomas (2,397) and Doug Hayes (2,510) of the United States rolled to the gold in the men's divisions, respectively. Canada's Cathy Harvey won gold in the women's Senior division with 2,248, and Lauraine Fast of Canada captured the Super Senior win with 2,186.

Doubles competition will take place Wednesday at Strikers Family Sportscenter.

The Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas is the oldest annual international tournament in the American Zone. It is an invitational event for countries in the Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON), the American Zone of World Bowling.

In each division, teams of two men and two women compete in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and mixed team. After the completion of those events, individual all-events and national all-events champions are recognized, too.
