Junior Team USA highlights mixed doubles at 2016 TOA

ARLINGTON, Texas - Junior Team USA swept the top spots in Junior A mixed doubles Thursday at the 54th Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The mixed doubles portion of the event included six games, with total pinfall determining the medalists. The Junior A category is for bowlers age 16-19.

Sydney Brummett and Kenny Ryan already have collected gold medals in singles and doubles at Strikers Family Sportscenter, and they teamed up to capture another win with a 2,418 total.

Brummett and Ryan's Junior Team USA teammates, Hollyann Johansen and Meeco Walker, earned the silver medal with 2,359.

Canada's Isabelle Rioux and Zach Wilkins made their move in the final three-game block to win the gold medal in the Adult division with 2,609. Team USA's Josie Earnest and Chris Via took silver with 2,524, while Junior Team USA's Haley Richard and Thomas Peters secured the bronze medal with 2,474.

Puerto Rico's Sarah Sanes and Edgar Burgos held off Danielle Jedlicki and Tom Hankey Jr. of the United States to win the gold medal in the Junior B (ages 12-15) division with a 2,333 total. Jedlicki and Hankey captured silver with a 2,294 score, and Katherine Corbin and Jonathan Cummins of the United States finished third with 2,196.

Canada's Cathy Harvey and Michel Lesage won the gold in the Senior division with 2,401, and the United States' Terri Ward and Doug Hayes took home the Super Senior win with 2,289.

Competition resumes Friday with the first four games of team competition, while the final four games will take place Saturday.

The Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas is the oldest annual international tournament in the American Zone. It is an invitational event for countries in the Pan American Bowling Confederation (PABCON), the American Zone of World Bowling.

In each division, teams of two men and two women compete in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and mixed team. After the completion of those events, individual all-events and national all-events champions are recognized, too.
