The St. Ambrose women and Lindenwood-Belleville men were able to make their way through the match-play bracket to capture victories at the Leatherneck Classic last weekend.

The women's competition at the Leatherneck Classic was held at Highland Park Bowl in Moline, Illinois, while the men's teams made their way to Miller Time Bowling in Davenport, Iowa.

The tournament format included six traditional games and 16 Baker games with total pinfall determining the top eight teams in each division for the match-play bracket. Bracket matches featured a best-of-three format.

The St. Ambrose women, the No. 7 seed, needed to go to an extra game in the championship round after finishing in a 185-185 tie in Game 3 against No. 8 Viterbo. The Fighting Bees won the fourth game, 185-174, to claim the title, 2.5-1.5. St. Ambrose defeated No. 6 Newman in the semifinals, 2-0, while Viterbo advanced by sweeping No. 4 Grand View, 2-0.

Nicole Troha of St. Francis-Illinois paced the women's individual standings with a 1,261 total, a 210.2 average. Morgan Petrin of Robert Morris-Illinois finished second with 1,223, and Lindenwood-Belleville's Eryka Graham (1,216), Wichita State's Laura Plazas (1,210) and Newman's Haley Williams (1,204) also earned spots on the all-tournament team.

The Lindenwood-Belleville men qualified sixth overall and swept No. 5 Wisconsin-Whitewater in the finals, 2-0. Lindenwood-Belleville defeated No. 2 Midland to earn its spot in the championship round, 2-1, while Wisconsin-Whitewater knocked off top seed Wichita State, 2-1, in the other semifinal.

Midland's Nick Pate averaged more than 230 to post a 1,384 six-game total to lead the men's field. Calumet's Nicco Vicari was second with 1,341, and Midland's Alec Karr (1,320) and McKendree's Charlie Reid (1,319) took third and fourth, respectively. Wichita State's Mitch Hupé‚ and Robert Morris-Illinois' Michael Martell finished in a tie for fifth with 1,315.

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:

- At the Warhawk Classic in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the Arkansas State women defeated McKendree in the title match, 4-2.

- At the Jackson State Invitational in Jackson, Mississippi, the Tulane women defeated Alabama-Birmingham in the finals, 4-2.

- At the West Coast Collegiate Conference No. 1 and No. 2 in Fresno, California, the Arizona State men swept the top spot.

- At the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference No. 2 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Lawrence Tech men and Concordia women collected wins.

- At the Raider Classic in Beavercreek, Ohio, the Pikeville women and Notre Dame-Ohio men posted the top two-game total in the finals to walk away with victories.

- At the Spring Hill College Fall Tournament in Mobile, Alabama, the Webber International men and women cruised to easy wins.

- At the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference North Conference No. 1 in Baltimore, the Delaware State women record the top score.

- At the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference South Conference No. 1 in Norfolk, Virginia, the North Carolina A&T women posted the number to beat.

- At the Penn State Classic in State College, Pennsylvania, the Rochester Institute of Technology men coasted to a big win.

- At the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference No. 1 in Jersey City, New Jersey, the Mount Aloysius women rolled to the top spot.

- At the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in Laurel, Maryland, the Fayetteville State women coasted to the Southern division win, while the Bowie State women cruised to the Northern division win.
