ARLINGTON, Texas - Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., has been named the June 2012 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the Bowling Writers Association of America (BWAA).

KulickbuswoKulick won her third U.S. Women's Open crown, defeating Missy Parkin of Lake Forest, Calif., 170-160 in the title match.

The stepladder finals began with No. 4 seed Stefanie Nation of Grand Prairie Texas, prevailing over No. 5 seed Lynda Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, 166-158. No. 3 seed Shannon O'Keefe of Arlington, Texas, bested Nation, 182-158, in the second match, then O'Keefe fell to No. 2 seed Parkin in the semifinal, 150-148.

Kulick became the first woman in 60 years to win U.S. Women's Open three times since USBC Hall of Famer Marion Ladewig won the third of her record eight U.S. Open crowns in 1952.

The outdoor setting was a first for women's professional bowling. Players battled never-before seen conditions with wind carrying dust onto the lanes built outdoors underneath the famed Reno Arch on Virginia Street.

This is Kulick's first BWAA Bowler of the Month honor when she won the award a record three times in 2010. That year, she became the only bowler in history to hold the following three major titles simultaneously: Bowling's U.S. Women's Open, USBC Queens, and the PBA Tournament of Champions.

Others receiving votes were Mike Edwards, winner of the USBC Senior Masters; Amleto Monacelli, winner of the Etonic PBA Senior U.S. Open; and Walter Ray Williams, Jr., winner of the PBA Senior Northern Classic, presented by Track; and Robin Romeo, winner of Bowling's Senior U.S. Women's Open.
