Deken was a collegiate and professional woman bowler who distinguished herself off the lanes as an extraordinary advocate for women's bowling. She spent two decades as tournament director for the former Ladies Pro Bowlers Tour, a longtime member of the Professional Women's Bowling Association board of directors, and as a bowling newspaper publisher, freelance writer and bowling radio show hostess.
