Joyce Deitch began her involvement in sanctioned bowling in 1953. From the 1950s through the 1990s, and into the 21st century, Deitch served the sport and business of bowling locally, nationally and internationally. Deitch was elected to the WIBC Board of Directors in 1973 and served the WIBC in various leadership positions until 2002. She was elected the seventh WIBC president in 1993 and served three terms. The WIBC Joyce Deitch Trailblazer Award recognizes organizations and individuals who have made important contributions to bowling especially women's bowling as leaders and innovators. In addition to her service as a leader of the Women's International Bowling Congress, Deitch held leadership roles in the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, the National Bowling Council and the World Tenpin Bowling Association. During her years of service to bowling, Deitch was involved in the formation of the bowling industry group Bowling Inc., in the creation of Team USA and in the birth of the Young American Bowling Alliance.
