Kawolics gained his early fame in Cleveland and then bowled with several outstanding Chicago teams, including those captained by Buddy Bomar and Paul Krumske, who also are in the Hall of Fame. In addition to his two USBC Open Championships eagles, he won 20 other tournament titles. As a professional, Kawolics was ineligible to compete in the 5th FIQ World Tournament in Mexico City in 1963. However, he was named coach of both the men's and women's teams, the first ever to represent the U.S. in world competition.
