Being a Good Teammate

Being a Good Teammate

Without your teammates, bowling just wouldn’t be as fun. Teammates are behind you on the lanes to offer advice, laughs, support and much, much more.

Today, we’ll look into some of the essentials of being a good teammate, and how you can help encourage each other to good times and big scores.

BE SUPPORTIVE

From time to time, one of your teammates may be having an off night on the lanes. Splits and missed spares fill the scoresheet, and you can see the frustration on their face. They know they are letting the team down but can’t get anything going.

This is when you need to be supportive and encourage them to keep giving it their best shot and give them a pat on the back. Let them know when they make a good shot. Offer high fives and positive reinforcement.

Remember, this is something we all run across, so by showing your teammates support when they need it will make its way back around when you find yourself in a similar position.

COMMUNICATE

Under the same lines, maybe a teammate isn’t throwing the ball bad, but just not making the right moves. It is a team sport, so communication is key.

Maybe you’re seeing the right lane hook a board or two more then the left lane. Maybe you’ve switched to a weaker ball and finding success while your teammate still is using their strongest ball and struggling. These are the type of things to talk about between shots.

Although what’s working for one person might not work for everybody, communication will lead to a better understanding of how your teammates see things on the lanes, bigger scores and a higher place in the standings.

ENJOY THE CAMARADERIE

Bowling is supposed to be fun, and you should be having a good time with those you lace up with week in and out.

So enjoy those opportunities. Show some team camaraderie by having personalized high fives, team cheers (watch collegiate bowling on BowlTV to see some of these) and coming up with other fun ways to strengthen your team unity.

So remember to show support, communicate and have a good time with your teammates. Not only will your experience improve, but you might even see your team name making its way towards the top of the standings sheet!
