Using Leagues to Stay Sharp
Using Leagues to Stay Sharp
It’s time to adjust your bowling schedule. League bowling means less time for practice so use leagues to be competitive and stay sharp. Staying focused, and adopting a “business like attitude” for each delivery will help sharpen your concentration.
Realize that you’re going through the same motions on the approach. Although leagues may be more recreational and laid back, the act of delivering the ball is the same. Separate the recreation (off the approach) from the delivery and focus on the approach.
Use league night to sharpen any skills that may be a bit off. For example practicing loft or a different hand position at the release can keep you in the same part of the lane but yield a different result at the pins. Most leagues use an easier lane condition so mistakes with your delivery may not be bad results on your scoresheet.
Many tournaments now have a higher scoring pace. Advancements with bowling ball and lane pattern technology have allowed for consistency yielding higher scores. Practice lane adjustments and mental focus while stringing strikes during league and when you need a strike during competition you will have what it takes to perform.
Make sure bowling ball(s) fit properly and replace any inserts or tape in the thumb and finger holes as needed. Stock your accessory bag with bowlers tape, a towel, shoe covers, inserts, bowling ball wipes and any tools needed to prepare for what competition brings.
If leagues are used effectively they can be great to prepare for tournaments. Isolating skills to practice in league will help keep you focused when it counts.
