Friends vs. Bowling Friends
Friends vs. Bowling Friends
You have your friends, and then you have your bowling friends. Know the difference.
Or, better yet, encourage all your friends to take the next step and giving bowling a shot. Then you won’t have to worry about running across these common missteps in every day conversation that only a bowling friend would understand.
Oil Patterns
If a non-bowling friend hears you discussing oil patterns, they’ll probably suggest that you consult your local auto mechanic so you can avoid any more unsightly stains in your driveway. You’ll have to let them know the differences between what helps your engine perform and the invisible opponent on the lanes.
Coverstocks
Speaking of cars, is there a better way to explain how a bowling ball coverstock grips the lanes to a non-bowling friend than using the tire comparison? An aggressive, reactive coverstock will grip the lane similar to a snow tire with heavy tread, while a plastic ball is just like a tire with no tread left. This is a great way to explain why someone would need more than one bowling ball.
Brooklyn
A vacation to New York may not be in your future if you’re talking about where all of your opponent’s strikes seem to be hitting.
Losing a Thumb Insert
Bowlers who use interchangeable thumb inserts know that every once in a while, they’ll get lost. Whether you put it in a ball that you didn’t bring, or it pops out after a shot, it happens.
But simply saying, “I forgot my favorite thumb,” or “My thumb popped out,” might require a little extra explanation to a non-bowling friend.
