In-School Bowling
In-School Bowling
Taking PE class to the next level
Talk about a cool in-school activity. Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS) just had their first-ever district-wide bowling tournament! More than 350 elementary kids (4th and 5th graders) had the chance to compete throughout the day in a baker-style tournament. Not only do these kids get to bowl (which is just fun in and of itself), but DPMS has been offering in-school bowling as a regular part of their physical education, which, according to the article from DMSchools.org, "rotates over 24 bowling lanes and equipment to help students practice their skills and learn the game of bowling throughout year in our PE classes."
Major props to the Des Moines Public Schools for investing in these kids and framing bowling as something that can be a sport. This is also possible thanks to the International Bowling Campus Youth Development team who put together the Bowler's Ed curriculum. If you're interested in getting the sport of bowling in your school district, please reach out to bowlersed@ibcyouth.com to get started.
