It’s common to be uncomfortable talking about something you don’t know about and even more common to just avoid it all together. If you’ve bowled a bit and are now looking to take it more serious and improve there’s no better place to get the equipment and knowledge than the Pro Shop.

The most important thing to understand is that the Pro Shop’s there to help. Most of them, around the country, have a wide array of equipment to help every level of player while some include options for lessons as well as clinics or classes for improvement. It’s often misunderstood that “you need to be a pro to use the Pro Shop,” nothing’s further from the truth.

Pro Shop technicians are there to help and can be a valuable asset to improving your scores.

“Pro Shop” is just a name and it doesn't imply that you need a level of expertise to use its tools or to take advantage of what it has to offer. The goal of most shops is to offer whatever their customer needs and like any other business, customer service goes a long way to being successful.

There are a few main areas that Pro Shops focus on but, as a customer, you don’t have to know anything about the game to inquire about getting better at it. Most shops offer equipment (balls, bags, and shoes), maintenance (cleaning, polishing, resurfacing etc…) and lessons (physical & mental game help) and starting a conversation with the technician can be as simple as walking in and simply saying “Hi, I want to get better at bowling.”

Walk in and look around, notice if there are a lot of bowling balls or shoes on display, or if there’s a menu for pricing or services offered, or if there’s a catalog you can browse to see what can be ordered. No questions about the game should be off limits and an experienced technician, genuinely interested in your business, will go out of their way to help you feel comfortable. You’re probably not going to begin by asking about “Duel Angle Layouts” or “Gradient Lines for Balance Holes” but know that your questions and education are very important and are of interest to the Pro Shop.
