Teaching Kids the Science of Bowling

Over the next few months, El Paso, Texas, will play host to the world's largest bowling tournament - the USBC Open Championships. And with the big event in town, the El Paso Exploreum has teamed with the International Bowling Campus (IBC) Youth Development team and several USBC Gold industry partners to create a fun Science of Bowling exhibit! The El Paso Exploreum itself is an interactive "living laboratory" for kids of all ages to explore and learn, and the Science of Bowling exhibit is no exception.

Various features of the exhibit include exploring the inside of bowling balls, bowling pins, an experiment with bowling balls and water and, of course, getting the chance to bowl! The goal of the exhibit is to expose the next generation of kids to the sport, and science, of bowling.

"We are excited about the opportunity to introduce the children of El Paso to the sport that brought us here, and this project is a great example of USBC's efforts focused on a future for the sport, with youth being a key piece," said Greg Moore, USBC Senior Director of Tournament Programming. "Bowling is as scientific as it is fun, and the exhibit will allow visitors to learn about physics and competition at the same time. We definitely appreciate the interest and support from the museum and its staff."

This exhibit, along with other initiatives taken on by the IBC Youth Development team, is encouraging both kids and young adults to look at bowling as not just something that's fun, but something they can invest in as a sport. The opportunity for kids to learn more about the sport and science of bowling is made possible by the various gifts from USBC's Gold industry partners that includes Storm Bowling Products, Columbia 300, Hammer and Kegel along with a grant from the IBC Youth Development team's In-School Bowling program.
