Tountas has a share of one of bowling's greatest records with a string of 21 four-game series above 800 in USBC Masters competition, ending with a 794 block of the 1968 finals. The one-time USBC champion went on to win the title that year. However, perhaps his proudest moment came in the 1988 USBC Open Championships when he and son Michael finished ninth in doubles.
