One of the top benefits of becoming a member of the United States Bowling Congress is having the chance to participate in USBC-certified tournaments like the Open and Women’s Championships.

Those two events, along with the new USBC Mixed, are offered so bowlers of all abilities can compete in a national tournament and experience the sport in a championship venue.

Here’s a quick rundown of each event:

USBC Open Championships

The Open Championships is open to all adult USBC members and has been around since 1901. The tournament is in its 112th edition, which currently is taking place in El Paso, Texas.

The tournament is rich in history, as many of the sport’s biggest names have left their mark. From USBC Hall of Famers Joe Norris and Bill Lillard Sr. to current PBA stars Chris Barnes and Tommy Jones, each has had the opportunity to march down the tournament’s famed Center Aisle, and so can you!

Bowlers compete in team, doubles, singles, all-events in two average-based divisions, along with Team All-Events. The Regular Division features competitors with entering averages above 181, while the Classified Division is for bowlers with averages of 180 and below.

The 2016 Open Championships will held at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada. In 2017, the tournament will head to the new South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas, and the 2018 event will head east to Syracuse, New York.

USBC Women’s Championships

WC

The Women’s Championships is open to all adult USBC female members, and got its start in 1916. The tournament is celebrating its 96th year at the NBS in Reno, and the event has continued to evolve.

During the 2014 event, the Women’s Championships expanded to four divisions for team event, and six divisions for doubles, singles and all-events. The tournament also returned to an all-scratch format, and introduced four-player teams for the first time. These changes have given competitors of all abilities the chance not only to win some prize money, but even take home a national title.

Fun is the name of the game at the Women’s Championships, and the fun will be heading to Las Vegas in 2016 and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2017.
