2022 Slated Candidates

The United States Bowling Congress Nominating Committee has slated five candidates for election to the USBC Board of Directors at the 2022 USBC Convention and Annual Meeting.

Delegates will vote to fill three open positions on the USBC Board of Directors. Current USBC President Melissa McDaniel is one of the five candidates slated, along with incumbents Anthony Colangelo and Bo Goergen. McDaniel was elected president by the board in 2020 and will soon term out as a member of the youth committee. She is seeking election by the delegates.

The USBC Nominating Committee, which may slate up to two candidates for each opening, set a slate of five candidates.

Brandon Bowman
Mukilteo, Washington

Brandon Bowman serves as a director on his local and state USBC Boards. He is Chair of the Youth and Communications Committees for Snohomish County USBC and is a Level I coach, helping to increase youth participation by 15% in 2021. Additionally, he serves as Committee Chair of Social Media and Communications for Washington State USBC and actively serves on the Youth and Finance Committees. Bowman joined the PBA Regional Tour in 2021 and is the 2003 WSUSBC All-Events champion. Professionally, he is a Sr. Program Manager and Business Consultant, focusing on sustainable business strategy, operational efficiency and financial management of large corporations, including Microsoft and The Boeing Company. He holds an MBA from Seattle University, a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University and a graduate certificate in Sustainable Business from Pinchot University/Presidio Graduate School.

Why are you qualified to serve on the USBC Board of Directors?: With over 15 years serving and consulting businesses and large corporations, I bring proven experience in cost management, operational efficiency and business strategy. I have deployed sustainable solutions reducing costs, streamlining business operations and defining strategies for growth and development. Coupled with a passion for competitive bowling and youth development, I bring a positive, can-do approach to USBC and am fully invested in the future of our sport and providing maximum value for our members.

Anthony Colangelo
Meridian, Idaho

Anthony Colangelo, who served his first term on the board from 2013-2016, returned for a second term starting in the 2019-2020 season. He has been involved in the bowling industry for more than 35 years and recently was association manager for the Idaho State USBC. He also served as chair of the Transition Committee for the Idaho State USBC, which completed its merger in 2017. He is currently the chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, and has served on Equipment Specs, Legal, Legislative and Nominating committees. He also currently serves on the board of the Bowlers to Veterans Link. Professionally, Colangelo is the IT Manager for Boise Centre, Idaho’s largest convention center, supervising a team that provides technical services for more than 350 events each year.

Why are you qualified to serve on the USBC Board of Directors?: I believe it is extremely important that we maintain continuity on the USBC Board as we continue to rebuild our organization post-COVID. Having already served two terms on the USBC Board, I can use that experience to prepare the next generation of USBC volunteer leaders to fill important roles on the board as we move forward together ensuring a future for the sport.

Bo Goergen
Sanford, Michigan

Bo Goergen has worked in the bowling industry for the last 40 years and has been the center manager/owner of Northern Lanes, a 24-lane center in Sanford, since 1997. He also is the executive director for the Bowling Centers Association of Michigan and has operated centers in Iowa, Georgia, Illinois and Michigan. He helped develop and continues to support programs at six local high schools and one college bowling team. On the lanes, he has competed in 41 USBC Open Championships and set the tournament record with an 862 singles series in 2009. He claimed a second Open Championships title in 2010, leading Northern Lanes Pro Shop to the Team All-Events crown. He also has competed on the PBA Senior Tour, with a career-best finish of second at the 2012 PBA Senior Don Carter Memorial. In 2015, he captured a pair of titles at the Bowlers Journal Championships.

Why are you qualified to serve on the USBC Board of Directors?: I believe my extensive work history in the bowling industry as well as my competitive career in the sport, and now three years on the board, I have a strong understanding of the inner workings with our national governing body. My passion to help grow the future of the sport lies vicariously through my son’s bowling career path now. I want him to experience what I have been blessed to these past 40-plus years of competing.

Melissa McDaniel
Raleigh, North Carolina

Melissa McDaniel is serving her third term on the board and became president to start the 2020-2021 season. She is the Assistant General Manager, Marketing Director, youth director and head coach for Buffaloe Lanes North, a family-owned center in North Carolina, and has one of the largest youth programs in the country. McDaniel, a USBC Silver coach, was chair of the International Bowling Campus Youth Committee for five years and will finish her ninth year on the committee to conclude this season. She is vice president of the Bowling Proprietors of the Carolinas and Georgia (BPACGA).

Why are you qualified to serve on the USBC Board of Directors?: To represent USBC through some of the toughest times has been humbling and rewarding. Observing the resiliency of our industry, and to see it come together and come out stronger than before the pandemic, is gratifying. When volunteering, it is important to be open-minded, listen and understand the different perspectives. I’ve grown so much over the last seven years, and it would be an honor to serve my final two years on the USBC Board.

Cheryl Younger
Leavenworth, Kansas

Cheryl Younger has more than 20 years of USBC membership and serves as vice president of Kansas State USBC and as a director on the board of Wy-Jon County USBC. Professionally, she worked 45 years in the corporate travel and financial services industry, most recently as senior manager of strategic relationship management for American Express Global Business Travel.

Why are you qualified to serve on the USBC Board of Directors?: I am an instinctive leader with excellent customer service and effective communication skills who currently serves on the Wy-Jon County and Kansas State USBC Boards. I believe in leading with honesty, integrity and transparency, which allows me to develop long lasting, collaborative relationships built on trust. I am approachable, easy going and love having fun. I will be a voice for our member bowlers and our bowling proprietors to advance the sport of bowling.
