Chicago bowler leads Sapphire All-Events at 2025 Women’s Championships
June 28, 2025

LAS VEGAS – Chicago’s Rebecca Gierut came out to Las Vegas with her friends and family to have a great time at the 2025 United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships, but she was in shock to find out she had taken over the lead in Sapphire All-Events.
Gierut, like many other bowlers that come to the tournament, travels to nationals for a trip to have fun and make memories. It makes it even more exciting when a bowler does so well that it’s a surprise when they find out they have taken the lead.
On Friday at the South Point Bowling Plaza, Gierut finished her final event of the tournament on a high note, posting a 1,573 total for her nine games. Eula Ceasar of Sulphur, Louisiana, had previously held the lead with 1,557.
Gierut achieved the impressive score with totals of 510 in team, 476 in doubles and a solid 587 in singles. In addition, she also secured a spot in second place for Sapphire Singles. Marcia Davis of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, holds the lead with 595.
When asked how she was feeling at the moment, Gierut said, “It’s very shocking. Honestly, I didn’t come here expecting to win anything – maybe just win a little back and not go empty handed back to Chicago. This was a shock, but awesome!”
Gierut’s mindset coming into the tournament was just to have fun with her group, and she wasn’t really paying attention to the score or even how well she was doing.
“I was just trying to have fun honestly, that’s all I was trying to do and just be there for my teammates whenever they needed a pat on the back,” Gierut said.
Having supportive teammates added a lot of motivation, too, giving her that extra boost to bowl well in the tournament.
“Yes, definitely, because I would say the reason why I came to Vegas again this year was because of the great camaraderie that we have together,” Gierut said.
Creating that connection all started from getting back into bowling with her best friend of 15 years, Daniela Garcia. They wanted to do something together outside of work, and bowling was that outlet for them.
By wrapping up the tournament with success, it would mean the world for Gierut to have her score take it all the way to the end of the 2025 USBC Women’s Championships.
“It would be crazy,” Gierut said. “It would just be awesome if I did, and if I didn’t, it would be OK. This is just a shock and so exciting. I’m just grateful for the opportunity.”
