RENO, Nev. – It’s been an exciting tournament experience for Jenny McDonald of Stockbridge, Georgia, who now holds the lead in two events at the 2024 United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships.
The Georgia bowler excelled with her team – Amy’s Cancer Sucks Team 2 – on Tuesday by taking the lead in Ruby Team with a 2,548 total at the National Bowling Stadium.
The good news continued for McDonald at the end of doubles and singles Wednesday, as she took the lead in Emerald All-Events. She finished her appearance with scores of 593 in team, 615 in doubles and 535 in singles for an all-events score of 1,743.
“I am feeling pretty excited,” said McDonald, who made her third appearance at the USBC Women’s Championships. “It’s been basically a surprise, because I had no idea what I needed going into it and just bowled my heart out.”
Finishing up Game 2 of singles was a little bit of a struggle for McDonald, and she was not seeing the scores she wanted. Rolling into Game 3 is where things started to change with the lead in sight for her.
“In Game 3, just play what you feel and hopefully it goes well,” said McDonald, talking about what she was thinking starting out her final game.
As she came to the finish line, McDonald ended her event impressively, picking up several spares when she needed them the most.
“I knew I needed some strikes, which I didn’t get, but I did finish off with some spares,” McDonald said. “I was pretty happy for that.”
Reflecting on her performance, McDonald was very satisfied with what she accomplished and is looking toward more. The mixture of motivation and having fun is what is encompassing her experience at the tournament.
“Just keep bowling well, and keep trying,” McDonald said. “I like to have fun, so I always come out here to have fun and not pressure myself into bowling well.”
Emerald All-Events features bowlers with entering averages of 136-155.
