Hard work pays off for Illinois bowler at 2025 USBC Women’s Championships

LAS VEGAS – New and exciting moments are happening at the 2025 United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships, with a new leader emerging in Ruby All-Events on Monday at the South Point Bowling Plaza.

Valerie Simek of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, scored high throughout her tournament appearance to secure the lead with a 1,906 total. Tara Spridco of Mansfield, Texas, had taken the lead Sunday in Ruby All-Events with 1,846.

In her run at the 2025 Women’s Championships, Simek had impressive and consistent sets of 634 in team, 635 in doubles and 637 in singles.

Coming into the tournament with family makes for a special and emotional moment to share, and for Simek, it was that exact feeling after losing her father several years ago.

“My dad was my coach, and he passed four years ago,” Simek said. “Being able to bowl with my aunt (his sister) and my mom is a family event. It’s emotional because he expected so much out of me, and I feel like I looked up to everything that he could.”

Taking what her father taught her about bowling paid off this week in Las Vegas, as she was shooting very well in each event. She wrapped up the tournament by taking the lead in all-events for her division because of the mindset she had for each frame.

“Every frame is a new game,” Simek said. “We have a family motto of whatever it takes, and I had to do whatever it takes for every frame.”

Closing the tournament with success, Simek is going to enjoy as much as she can in Las Vegas before a quick turnaround to go back home to Illinois.

“I have to catch a plane back to Chicago, but I am sure there will be a drink or two to celebrate,” Simek said.

Ruby All-Events features bowlers with entering averages of 156-175.
