McMullen and Maly lead Diamond Doubles at 2025 Women’s Championships

LAS VEGAS – Past tournament champions Michelle Maly and Debbie McMullen of Denver were on fire Friday at the 2025 United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships, taking the lead in Diamond Doubles with a 1,387 total.

Maly was the leader with a fantastic score of 750 at the South Point Bowling Plaza. In Game 1, she started off strong with 246. She was consistent again in Game 2, bowling a solid score of 227. In Game 3, she fired off a total score of 277.

McMullen complimented Maly’s performance, tossing a total score of 637. McMullen came out firing in Game 1 with 222. In Game 2, she stayed on point with 213. She finished with 202.

Maly and McMullen teamed with two-time titlist Sharon Powers of Lakewood, Colorado, and three-time champion Christine Polansky of Collinsville, Illinois, to win the Diamond Team title at the 2019 USBC Women’s Championships in Wichita, Kansas.

Powers and Polansky nearly matched the effort of their teammates in doubles this year at the Bowling Plaza and moved into second place with 1,368.

Maly and McMullen were very enthusiastic when they found out they had taken the lead in Diamond Doubles.

“I was happy about the way Debbie bowled – she threw the ball amazing today,” said Maly, who also celebrated her 20th Women’s Championships this year. “I was excited on how my bowling complimented hers as well.”

Maly was poised throughout her entire doubles set.

“I just came out here and felt good about my bowling,” Maly said. “I didn’t feel nervous like I normally do. I just went out and bowled and wanted to make good shots today.”

Both Maly and McMullen have been very successful in the bowling world for years now.

Maly bowled collegiately at West Texas A&M and helped the team win the Intercollegiate Team Championships during the 1995-1996 season. She also was recognized as a National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association (NCBCA) All-American on two occasions, including the first team for the 1997-1998 season.

McMullen’s resume is impressive as well. She was on Team USA for two years (1988-1989) and also has two Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour titles under her belt. Plus, she’s been elected to the Greater Denver and Colorado State USBC Halls of Fame.
