LAS VEGAS – For Deidre Zick of South Weber, Utah, her trip to the 2023 United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships was filled with fun, friends and an ending she will never forget.

Zick put up her best series to date at the tournament, rolling games of 216, 172 and 175 at the South Point Bowling Plaza for an impressive 563 total to take the lead in Amethyst Singles.

Helen Lewis of Oxford, Georgia, previously was the leader with a series of 547.

“It was amazing,” Zick said. “I didn’t even realize my series until the end.”

Making her fourth appearance at the USBC Women’s Championships, Zick could have never imagined having a performance like this. Having put up scores of 420 in team and 375 in doubles, she found her comfort zone and ended strong to take the lead.

Her teammates were there with her every step of the way. When finding out their teammate and friend had taken the singles lead, the members of Spare Me were there with warm embraces and cheers.

Knowing her name will be donned atop the leaderboard for Amethyst Singles, Zick simply stated, “It’s absolutely unreal.”

The Amethyst Division features bowlers with entering averages of 125-137.

The 2023 Women’s Championships started April 23 and will conclude July 2. The event will run for 71 consecutive days at the South Point Bowling Plaza and feature more than 4,200 four-player teams and nearly 17,000 bowlers.
