LAS VEGAS –
With more than a month in the books at the 2023 United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships, the scores have begun to settle, but new leaders still are emerging at the South Point Bowling Plaza.

Enter the members of Them Three and Me of Enoch, Utah, who took hold of the Ruby Team lead with a consistent team effort, rolling games of 720, 753 and 740 for a 2,213 total to pass the previous leader – Alaska Chicks of Palmer, Alaska – by six pins (2,207).

“We are stoked,” said Chelsea Rowley, who led the team with a 583 series.

Rowley was joined on the team by Chelsie Fox (539), Jessica Jones (509) and Britney Harding (582).

It all came down to Rowley in the final frame of the third game to see if the team would take over the lead. She needed a double for the opportunity to secure the top spot and was able to deliver two strikes and nine on her fill ball.

However, the teammates were unsure if their lead would last more than a couple minutes, as another team in their division also was in the mix on the other side of the Bowling Plaza. They watched anxiously as Megan Fernandes Team 6 of Baldwin Park, California, settled into third place with 2,197.

“We can now go brag to our friends back in Utah about how well we bowled,” said Rowley, with a laugh. “This is a good group of ladies to be at the top with.”

Ruby Team features four-player groups with combined entering averages of 600-664.

The 2023 Women’s Championships started April 23 and will conclude July 2. The event will run for 71 consecutive days at the South Point Bowling Plaza and feature more than 4,200 four-player teams and nearly 17,000 bowlers.
