Meet the Stars of the PWBA

The Professional Women’s Bowling Association relaunched in 2015 after a 12-year hiatus to sold-out fields, amazing performances and plenty of excitement. Here’s a look at some of the top players from the 2015 season.

USBC Hall of Famer Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, New York, won three titles, including two majors, during the 2015 season on her way to being named PWBA Player of the Year.

Johnson captured her second USBC Queens title to kick off the 2015 PWBA season, and defended her crown at the U.S. Women’s Open to earn her a fourth green jacket. She now owns 14 PWBA titles.

She led the PWBA Tour in wins, points and earnings in 2015.

Johnson, the 1996 PWBA Rookie of the Year, is a three-time Team USA Trials champion, and an 11-year member of Team USA. She also has five titles at the USBC Women’s Championships, and is the 2010 Petersen Classic champion.

StefanieJohnson

Stefanie Johnson of Grand Prairie, Texas, earned PWBA Rookie of the Year honors in 2015. She collected her first title at the PWBA Wichita Open and led all competitors in cashes and match-play appearances.

The 31-year-old right-hander has been a Team USA member since 2005, and has helped the U.S. capture numerous medals during her 11 years on the team. She also spent four years on Junior Team USA.

Johnson and fellow PWBA member Shannon Pluhowsky are the only players to win the Junior Gold Championships three consecutive years, and she was a collegiate standout at Central Florida, earning most valuable player honors during the 2005-2006 season.

Along with Rookie of the Year honors, Johnson also had three second-place finishes during the 2015 season.

KellyKulick

Kelly Kulick of Union, New Jersey, made national headlines in 2010 by becoming the first female to win a Professional Bowlers Association Tour title in the PBA’s biggest event, the Tournament of Champions.

The PWBA spokesperson always has performed well in major events, including three wins at the U.S. Women’s Open and two victories at the USBC Queens.

The 2001 PWBA Rookie of the Year has spent 11 years on Team USA, capturing countless medals in international competition and was the 2000 Team USA Trials champion.

Kulick had an outstanding collegiate career at Morehead State that featured a championship at the 1998 Intercollegiate Team Championships and three most valuable player awards.

In the PWBA Tour’s relaunch, Kulick led all competitors by making six championship-round appearances, with a best finish of second at the PWBA Wichita Open.

DanielleMcEwan

Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, New York, capped off the 2015 PWBA season by winning the Smithfield PWBA Tour Championship, a major event on the PWBA Tour, for her first career PWBA title.

The 24-year-old right-hander is no stranger to the winner’s circle, however. McEwan recently captured her first PBA Regional title, and won back-to-back Team USA Trials in 2012 and 2013.

She has spent the past four years on Team USA, and also had a three-year stint on Junior Team USA, collecting more than a dozen medals in international competition.

McEwan had a spectacular collegiate career at Fairleigh Dickinson University, helping the Knights to the 2010 NCAA title on her way to be named the tournament’s most outstanding player. She was named as a first-team All American in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and earned player of the year honors in her final two years.
