Nebraska wins 2014 Prairie View A&M Invitational

ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Nebraska won its second consecutive Prairie View A&M Invitational on Sunday, defeating Vanderbilt, 4-2, in the championship match at the International Training and Research Center.

The finale was a rematch of the 2013 NCAA championship match, which Nebraska also won. This time, the Huskers battled back from a 2-1 deficit, winning three consecutive games for the victory, including a 171-154 effort in the deciding game.

Nebraska entered the match-play portion of the event as the No. 2 seed and downed Sam Houston State, 4-3, on the way to the title match. Vanderbilt, the 2012 Prairie View A&M Invitational champion, earned its spot in the title tilt with a 4-1 win against top-seeded and top-ranked Arkansas State.

Arkansas State defeated Sam Houston, 4-3, in the match to decide third and fourth place.

All 12 teams in the field bowled five four-game Baker matches Friday, five traditional team games Saturday and one special best-of-seven Baker match Sunday morning before the march to the title resumed with the best-of-seven match-play brackets. Seeding was based on total pinfall from the 20 Baker games Friday and Saturday's traditional games.

Along with the Prairie View A&M Invitational trophy on the line, each match the teams bowled went toward their overall win-loss records for the 2013-14 bowling season.

Individually, Vanderbilt's Robyn Renslow took MVP honors with a 1,122 total, a 224.4 average, during Saturday's five traditional team games. She was joined on the all-tournament team by Amanda Labossiere from Arkansas State (1,116), Central Missouri's Mary Wells (1,067) and Arkansas State teammates Ashley Rucker (1,065) and Stephanie Mims (1,037).
