Collegiate Ticker - Feb. 13, 2019

The Kansas Wesleyan women and West Texas A&M men rolled to victory last weekend at the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference Championships in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

The event was held at the FireLake Bowling Center and welcomed 11 men's varsity teams and six women's varsity programs. All teams competed in nine traditional games, with total pinfall determining the winner in each division.

The Kansas Wesleyan women set the tone by delivering the team's best effort in the opening game (1,035). The Coyotes cruised after the strong start, winning the SWIBC Championships by nearly 500 pins with an 8,384 total.

Oklahoma Christian took second with 7,891, and West Texas A&M was third with 7,672.

In addition to the team win, Kansas Wesleyan's Carolina Snowden posted the top individual score in the women's field, leading the way by 140 pins with a 1,876 total, a 208.44 average. Snowden was followed in the standings by Southwestern Christian's Elisabeth Henderson (1,736), Oklahoma Christian's Melissa McConnell (1,720) and Taylore Ryan (1,717) and Cowley CC's Abigail Parks (1,669).

On the men's side, West Texas A&M finished the competition with its best performance, rolling 1,154 in the team's final game to put an exclamation point on a 621-pin victory. The Buffaloes finished the weekend by toppling 9,399 pins, averaging nearly 209 as a team.

Oklahoma Christian finished in second with 8,778, while Texas Tech took third with 8,576.

West Texas A&M also held three of the top five individual spots in Shawnee, highlighted by Bradley Harvey posting the top score with a nine-game total of 2,046, a 227.3 average. Harvey's teammates, Collin Walsh (1,903) and Rusty Johnston (1,893), finished third and fourth, respectively.

Oklahoma Christian's Joshua Imhoff was second with 1,922, and Texas A&M's Garrett Meeks rounded out the top five with 1,870.

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:

- At the Sunshine State Winter Classic in Orlando, Florida, the Stephen F. Austin women overcame a 3-0 deficit in the title match against Nebraska to claim the bracket win, 4-3.

- At the Tony Reyes Memorial Collegiate Classic I and II in San Jose, California, the San Jose State men and women finished at the top of the standings.

- At the Great Lakes Bowling Conference No. 4 in Freeport, Illinois, the Highland CC women and Rock Valley men each won their deciding games in bracket play to claim the wins in their respective divisions, 3-2.

- At the Muskie Mash in Lancaster, Ohio, the Lindenwood men edged past University of the Cumberlands for the victory, while Ohio State claimed the women's title by more than 100 pins.

- At the Suffolk Tournament in Babylon, New York, the Molloy women cruised to the top spot, while the Stevens Institute men outdistanced the competition.

- At the Northeast Winter Classic in Lodi, New Jersey, the William Paterson men rolled to the top of the standings.

The final events of the 2018-2019 regular season will take place this weekend, highlighted by the final Tier 1 event, the 50th Annual Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic. The Hoosier Classic will be held at Western Bowl in Indianapolis, and the tournament will be broadcast live at BowlTV.com.

BowlTV also will announce the sectional assignments for the 2019 Intercollegiate Team Championships next week. The broadcast will take place Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. Eastern.

Sectionals will take place March 8-10 at four locations across the country. The locations for 2019 are Stratford, New Jersey; Smyrna, Tennessee; Addison, Illinois; and Dallas.

The 2019 Intercollegiate Team Championships and Intercollegiate Singles Championships will be held April 15-20 at Poelking Lanes South in Dayton, Ohio.
