O'Neill Honored as May Bowler of the Month
Bill O'Neill of Langhorne, Penn., has been selected as the May 2015 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association.
O'Neill downed reigning PBA Player of the year, Jason Belmonte, of Australia, 247-172 for the PBA Oklahoma Open crown. O'Neill then defeated Tommy Jones of Simpsonville, S.C., 191-164, for the King of the Swing crown, featuring each of the four tournament winners and the top point getter of the PBA Summer Swing.
O'Neill led both qualifying and match play and was top seed of the PBA Oklahoma Open. The first match of the stepladder saw Patrick Allen of Mount Kisco, N.Y., oust Andres Gomez of Columbia, 211-200. Allen then downed the third-seed Jones, 225-215. The second-seeded Belmonte then ousted Allen, 237-203, setting up the title match with O'Neill.
In the King of the Swing television finals, top point getter Belmonte downed PBA Wolf Open winner and April IBMA Kegel Bowler of the Month honoree Kyle Troup, Taylorsville, N.C., 201-182. Third-seed and PBA Badger Open winner Ronnie Russell, Marion, Ind., ousted Belmonte, 233-211. Second-seed and PBA Bear Open champ Jones bested Russell, 208-178. setting up the title match with O'Neill.
Others obtaining votes this month were Tommy Jones, winner of the PBA Bear Open; Liz Johnson, winner of the USBC Queens; Robin Romeo, winner of the USBC Senior Queens; and Kyle Troup, winner of the PBA Wolf Open.
