CASHLESS OPERATIONS FAQ
HOW DO BRACKETS WORK?
The idea of brackets is simple: each "bracket" includes eight randomly selected bowlers on your squad during team, doubles and/or singles events. You need to bowl a higher game than the bowler you are paired against to advance out of each round. If you win three matches, you win your bracket.
*Brackets and side events will have no impact on regular tournament competition. There is no obligation to enter, but it is a great opportunity to bring home some extra winnings.
Participants can compete in brackets against bowlers in their divisions. Participants also have the option to compete in higher division brackets, if they so choose.
Divisional structure for 2022: Regular (entering averages of 176 and above); Standard (entering averages of 156-175); Classified (entering averages of 155 and below).
*Divisions are based on Championships/Sport averages.
All bracket scores are scratch.
Payouts may be adjusted if product does not fill.
Payouts and all related documentation (1099s) are distributed only to the person entering the event.
All products must be purchased by the time you leave the squad room to head for the lanes.
Back in 2022:
A cashless system for purchasing brackets was introduced at the 2021 event to help minimize person-to-person contact and money exchange, and it will be back in 2022.
Brackets entries during the 2022 event can purchased using a credit or debit card. Cash purchases also will be possible for brackets in 2022.
This year, all same-day payouts are being made on-site at the South Point Hotel and Casino in a designated location (Sports Book) and subject to the property's standard operating procedures.
Unclaimed brackets earnings, under-21 brackets earnings and tournament-long product payouts will be included on prize checks, with the exception of unclaimed earnings of $10 or less.
Claims for brackets earnings of $10 or less must be made within 72 hours, or such claims are forfeited. Forfeited funds support USBC's philanthropic efforts: Bowl for the Cure, BVL, Special Olympics and IBMHOF.
BRACKETS AVAILABLE BY DIVISION
SAME-DAY PAYOUT OPTIONS
In 2022, same-day payout brackets will be conducted based on the three-division structure of the event (Regular, Standard, Classified), based on Sport/Championships Averages.
In addition, senior and super senior competitors will continue to enjoy the chance to compete against others of similar age classifications.
Maximum entries vary by event and division - please reference entry form for exact limits.
We offer $10 and $5 brackets, by division, during team, doubles and singles. Check forms carefully, as these vary by division.
First prize in $10 brackets is $50, and second place pays $20. First prize in the $5 brackets is $25, and second place pays $10.
Reverse Brackets work like traditional brackets, with the only difference being that instead of using your scores in order (Game 1, Game 2 and Game 3), they are used in reverse order (Game 3, Game 2, Game 1).
Sorted Brackets are an exciting spin on a traditional favorite, which maximizes your chance to win. Sorted Brackets work just like traditional eight-person brackets, only your game scores always are sorted in order from highest to lowest, compared to traditional brackets, where the scores are used in order.
For example, if a bowler rolls 190, 160, 210, the bracket would be conducted using 210 as the score for Game 1, 190 for Game 2 and 160 in Game 3.
Sorted brackets are being offered in the Regular Division and during team event only.
First prize is $50, and second place pays $20. The cost for each Sorted Bracket is $10.
While Sorted Brackets are listed under the Regular Division menu, bowlers from any division are eligible to enter. All bowlers in Sorted Brackets are randomized together, not by division.
SUPER SIDE POTS
Super Side Pots are a modern version of the traditional side pots that reward you for bowling the best game on your squad. Beat the bowlers in your division and take home some prize money that day. Then, see how your scores hold up in the yearlong jackpot.
The $25 entry fee must be paid for each separate event players intend to enter (team, doubles and singles). Super Side Pots are available by division during team, doubles and singles.
Prizes - $15 of every entry is paid daily as a traditional side pot during each squad, with $5 going toward a yearlong prize-fund-style payout, which features a cash ratio of 1:10.
PRODUCTS FOR SENIORS (50+)
All competitors must be 50 or older on day of bowling.
PRODUCTS FOR SUPER SENIORS (60+)
All competitors must be 60 or older on day bowling.
There are $10 and/or $5 brackets for both seniors and super seniors during team, doubles and singles.
First prize in $10 brackets is $50, and second place pays $20. First prize in a $5 bracket is $25, and second place pays $10.
With an entry fee of $5, Reverse Brackets work like traditional brackets, with the only difference is that instead of using your scores in order (Game 1, Game 2 and Game 3), they are used in reverse order (Game 3, Game 2, Game 1).
First prize in the Reverse Brackets is $25, and second pays $10.
SENIOR AND SUPER SENIOR PLAY-THE-FIELD BRACKETS
These eight-person brackets are randomized at the end of the tournament from the full field of participants in each division and event.
The entry fee for Play-the-Field Brackets is $5. First prize is $25, and second place pays $10. Seniors may enter up to 300 Play-the-Field brackets and Super Seniors can enter 50. Bowlers age 60 and older are eligible to participate in both.
$2K SUPER BRACKETS FOR SENIOR AND SUPER SENIOR BOWLERS
USBC offers a "Super Bracket" program that allows bowlers to compete in side events that last more than the traditional three games. Bowlers randomly are matched up the day after the USBC Open Championships concludes. The $2K Senior Super Brackets include 512 bowlers and use all nine games.
Entries into the individual $2K Senior Super Brackets and $2K Super Senior Super Brackets will be $10, with an estimated top prize of $2,000.
In 2022, there are some yearlong products available by division and some that include all tournament participants. Please read the entry forms carefully. Brackets staff is available in squad room to answer any questions.
This exciting product affords bowlers an opportunity to participate in traditional eight-person brackets that are randomized at the end of the tournament from the full field of participants in each division or product.
Play-the-Field Brackets proved to be popular for bowlers in the Regular Division (averages of 176 and above), Seniors (age 50 and older) and Super Seniors (age 60 and older), so they were introduced in 2021 for all bowlers averaging 175 and below (combined product for Standard and Classified Bowlers). That option will be back again in 2022!
The entry fee for Play-the-Field Brackets is $5. First prize is $25, and second place pays $10. Bowlers may enter up to 300 Play-the-Field brackets.
*The following yearlong products are open to ALL bowlers, with no age or average classifications or restrictions:
$5K SOLO SUPER BRACKETS
This "Super Bracket" allows bowlers to compete in a side event that last more than the traditional three games. Bowlers randomly are matched up the day after the USBC Open Championships concludes.
The individual $5K Solo Super Brackets include 512 bowlers and include all nine games. Entries into the individual $5K Super Brackets are $25 with a top prize of $5,000 in each. Bowlers may enter up to 10.
$2K SUPER BRACKETS
Similar to the $5K Solo Super Brackets, the $2K Super Brackets also last more than the traditional three games. Bowlers randomly are matched up, by division, the day after the USBC Open Championships concludes.
Entries into the individual $2K Super Brackets will be $10 with a top prize of $2,000 in each. Bowlers may enter up to 10.
1-5-9 AND 3-6-10 STRIKE JACKPOTS
Once again, the 1-5-9 and 3-6-10 Strike Jackpots feature a $10 entry fee, which puts bowlers in the jackpot for all three events (team, doubles and singles). Bowlers who record strikes in the first, fifth and ninth frames (or the third, sixth and first shot in the 10th frame for the 3-6-10 Jackpot) of all three games in an event will split the accumulated total at the end of the tournament.
Additionally, bowlers who hit eight of nine strikes will share 20 percent of the jackpots. So, even if you miss in the first shot of the first game, you still have a chance to cash.
30 CLEAN JACKPOT
The 30 Clean Jackpot offers participants three chances to earn a share of a tournament-long jackpot for a $10 entry fee. Each bowler has three chances - team, doubles, singles - to record 30 consecutive frames with a strike or spare. If a bowler is successful in any, or all three events, for that matter, he/she will share in the end-of-tournament payoff.
Each 30 Clean qualifier also receives a special award to commemorate the achievement.
The Jackpot Trio gives bowlers the chance to enter all three jackpots (1-5-9, 3-6-10 and 30 Clean) at once for the low price of $25.
With an entry fee of just $20, Century Doubles pairs two bowlers who are a combined 100 years of age, or older, on the day of bowling. For example, a bowler who is 35 years old must find a bowler on his/her squad who is 65 or older to enter the event, and vice versa.
Bowlers may enter with up to five other competitors on their squad. Bowlers will use their combined doubles score to determine the winner at the end of the tournament.
Not more than ONE bowler identified as a professional under the 2022 Open Championships tournament rules will be allowed per doubles team.
Prize money goes to the bowler who signs up the pair, but the two bowlers can enter with each other and share the place in the standings. For example, Joe Bowler can sign up with Jim Bowler, and Jim Bowler can pay his own $20 to sign up with Joe Bowler.
TEAM USA QUALIFYING
Open Championships bowlers are encouraged to use their nine-game all-events totals as qualifying scores to earn paid entries into the USBC Team USA Trials, an event that gives bowlers a chance to be on Team USA.
For a $35 entry fee, one out of every 10 entrants earns a paid Team USA Trials entry.
USBC donates $1 from each all-events entry fee to support the Team USA program.
Please note: In order to participate in any side event that requires scores from all nine games, specifically Super Brackets and Team USA qualifying, bowlers must bowl team event before doubles and singles and must sign up prior to throwing their first ball.
Also, unless and until claimed, all brackets earnings are the property of USBC. Claims for brackets earnings of $10 or less must be made at the payout window within 72 hours, or such claims are forfeited.
Forfeited funds support USBC's philanthropic efforts: Bowl for the Cure, Bowlers to Veterans Link, Special Olympics and the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame.
