The Rock Valley men’s team and the Robert Morris-Illinois women’s team made their way through bracket play last weekend to post victories at the Titan Invite.

The event was held at Classic Lanes Fox Valley in Neenah, Wisconsin, and included 16 men’s and eight women’s varsity programs. All teams bowled six traditional games and 16 Baker games before the field was cut to the top eight in the men’s division and top four in the women’s division for the bracket.

Bracket matches leading up to the title match were contested in a best-of-three Baker format, while the championship round was best of five.

The Rock Valley men finished qualifying in fifth place but quickly dispatched No. 4 Wisconsin-Madison (2-0) and No. 1 Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2-0) to advance to the final round to face No. 6 Marian. Marian earned its spot in the title match with a pair of 2-1 victories over No. 3 Wisconsin-La Crosse and No. 7. Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Rock Valley continued strong in the title tilt, sweeping its third consecutive opponent to claim the bracket win.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee earned the top seed by nearly 400 pins over the field, finishing qualifying with an 8,941 total. Highland Community College grabbed the final spot in the bracket with an 8,137 score.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Jeromey Hodsdon took home individual honors in the men’s division with a six-game score of 1,308 (218 average). He was followed in the standings by Rock Valley’s Brett Beuthin (1,267), Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Jacob Dunnum (1,262), Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Cody Weigel (1,243) and Wisconsin-Madison’s Edward Larson (1,222).

In the women’s bracket, top-seeded Robert Morris-Illinois swept No. 4 Viterbo (2-0) to advance to the title match and face No. 3 Wisconsin-Whitewater, which defeated No. 2 Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 2-1.

Robert Morris-Illinois, the defending Intercollegiate Team Championships winner, quickly raced to a 2-0 lead in the finals. Wisconsin-Whitewater fought back to win the next two games to force a fifth and deciding game. Robert Morris-Illinois recorded a 190-177 win in Game 5 to secure the victory.

The Eagles led qualifying by more than 620 pins with an 8,609 total, and Viterbo earned the fourth spot with a 7,787 score.

Robert Morris-Illinois’ Samantha Scroggin, the only player in the women’s division to average more than 200 for six games, earned the top spot in the individual standings with a 1,270 total (211.67 average). She was joined in the top five by Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Elizabeth Mastopietro (1,190) and Kerri Warner (1,137), Robert Morris-Illinois’ Mattie Brandos (1,121) and Viterbo’s Sabrina Becker (1,117).

In other USBC Collegiate action over the weekend:

- At the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic in Marietta, Georgia, the Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah women captured their first Tier 1 victory, while the Webber International men won the title for the second consecutive year.

- At the Track Kat Klash in Houston, the Nebraska women won the deciding game in the bracket final against McKendree, 191-168, to claim the title, 4-3.

- At the Crusader Classic in Lynwood, Illinois, the Drury women bounced back from a 2-0 deficit in the championship round to win the final four games against Kentucky Wesleyan and record the victory.

- At the AC Open in Adrian, Michigan, the Bowling Green State men and Alma women maintained their advantages during Baker competition to claim the top spots in their respective divisions.

- At the Ohio Bowling Conference 2 in Columbus, Ohio, the Walsh women and Muskingum men rolled to the top of the standings.

- At the Medaille Invitational in Buffalo, New York, the Medaille women swept Daemen in title match, 4-0.

- At the Five Season Classic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Wisconsin-Whitewater men and St. Ambrose women navigated their way to bracket wins.

- At the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge in Lawrence, Kansas, and Topeka, Kansas, the Wichita State women claimed the bracket title as the top seed, while the Baker men knocked off three higher seeds on the way to the win.

- At the Olivet Comet Classic in Charlotte, Michigan, the Judson men captured the win by 12 pins, and Adrian women cruised to the top of the leaderboard.
