The final United States Bowling Congress Collegiate events of 2021 wrapped up last week in Pennsylvania, with the Indiana Tech men sweeping the top spots and Lawrence Tech and Savannah College of Art and Design-Savannah women each recording a victory in Tier I competition.
The Roto Grip Keystone Quaker Classic (Dec. 27-28 in Allentown, Pennsylvania) and Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic (Dec. 29-30 in Whitehall, Pennsylvania) annually close out the first half of the season, and each event featured five traditional games and 20 Baker games, with total pinfall determining the champion in each division.
In the men's division at the Keystone Quaker Classic, Indiana Tech and Wisconsin-Whitewater battled throughout both blocks for the top spot. Indiana Tech rolled games of 222, 226 and 253 down the stretch during the Baker block to hold off Wisconsin-Whitewater by 18 pins for the victory with a 9,137 total.
Wisconsin-Whitewater finished with 9,119, and Lawrence Tech finished third with 9,016.
Rochester's Carter Scillion was the top individual performer in the men's division at the Keystone Quaker Classic, averaging 215.2 for five games with a 1,076 total.
He was joined in the top five by Muskingum's Evan Thro (1,051), Lawrence Tech's Brendan Ashley (1,045), Indiana Tech's Dillon McArthur (1,038) and Wisconsin-Whitewater's Drake Bazzy (1,034).
On the women's side at the Keystone Quaker Classic, Lawrence Tech dominated on the way to a wire-to-wire win and 246-pin victory with an 8,168 total.
Indiana Tech finished second with 7,922, and Rochester Institute of Technology finished third with 7,807.
Indiana Tech's Maryssa Carey earned top individual honors in the women's division, posting a 981 total (196.2 average).
Carey was followed by four student-athletes from Lawrence Tech - Laurin Prebelich (976), Bailey Gipson (966), Sydney Clark (960) and Victoria Giardina (943).
The Keystone Quaker Classic featured 22 men's varsity teams and six varsity women's programs.
The Indiana Tech men easily completed the sweep at the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic, recording the win by 433 pins with a 9,318 total.
William Paterson was second with 8,885, and SCAD-Savannah took third with 8,809.
A pair of student-athletes from William Paterson paced the men's individual standings at the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic. Brandon Vallone was the top finisher with a 1,167 five-game total (233.4 average), while Johann Gamo finished second with 1,123.
Christopher Wollschleger of Rochester Institute of Technology was third with 1,105, while Mark Livingston of Robert Morris-Pennsylvania (1,100) and Indiana Tech's James Bennett (1,096) rounded out the top five.
In the women's division at the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic, Lawrence Tech held a slight lead over SCAD-Savannah after the completion of the traditional block. SCAD-Savannah secured the victory at the end of the Baker block, finishing with games of 233 and 227 to claim a 35-pin victory with an 8,100 total.
Lawrence Tech was second with 8,065, and Indiana Tech was third with 7,868.
Lara Kurt of SCAD-Savannah earned the top individual spot in the women's division, finishing with a 985 total (197 average).
Indiana Tech's Carey (969) and Lawrence Tech's Gipson (940) each earned their second top-five finish of the week by placing second and fourth, respectively.
Rochester's Tia Robinson finished third with 962, and Cassidy Potter of Rochester Institute of Technology finished fifth with 933.
