The United States swept the doubles gold medals in the opening event of bowling at the 2011 Pan American Games. Chris Barnes and Bill O'Neill topped the men's field by 193 pins, while Liz Johnson and Kelly Kulick easily won the women's event at Bolerama Tapatio.

Pluhowsky is September Bowler of Month
Shannon Pluhowsky, of Kettering, Ohio, has been named the September 2011 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the Bowling Writers Association of America. Pluhowsky became the first bowler in the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA) World Women's Championships to win four gold medals in the same tournament.
