2010 Texas state titles handed out

Killeen Ellison edged top-seed Allen in the girl's division while Plano East captured its second boys' state title by defeating defending champion San Antonio Madison at the 2010 Texas High School Bowling Club team championship held at Bandera Super Bowl in San Antonio on March 27-28.

In the girls' semifinals, No. 2 seed Ellison managed to slip past 2008 champion San Antonio Madison in one of the most exciting matches of the tournament. After falling in the first match of the best-of-three Baker games, Ellison tied the second game then won the one-ball roll-off. Ellison took the deciding game 186-185 to set up a championship match against three-time and defending champion Allen.

Allen rolled in the opening game but Ellison took a 173-171 victory in the second game to set up a deciding game. Allen jumped to an early lead but Ellison fought back for a 164-138 victory.

Ellison team members, all seniors, are: Amanda Taylor, Jerica Horn, Cindy Gill, Brittany Evans, Devin Revels, and Victoria Thurston. The Ellison Lady Eagles are coached by Karin Ciesiolka.

In the boys' division, San Antonio Madison swept three opponents to reach the title match but Plano East, which won the title in 2006, swept Madison, 214-165, 195-178 for the championship.

Plano East team members are: Brad Rodda, Tommy Davis, Brandon Wesley, Tyler Samsel, Corey Wesley, Kevin Blake, James Dean, and Adam Smith. The Panthers are coached by Mark Plagens.

Individual titles determined
Jacob Hollis of Keller Fossil Ridge captured the 2010 Texas Boys Singles with a 267-225 victory over freshman Ryan Money of Cy-Fair. Hollis beat Vaughn Cruz of San Antonio Central Catholic, 238-176, to reach the final while Money edged D'Angelo Sewell of Carrollton Ranchview, 200-193, in his semifinal match.

Cindy Gill, who helped Killeen Ellison capture the girls' team title, won the girls' state individual title. She beat 2008 champion Danielle Walker of Keller Central, 180-176, in the semifinals the topped top-seed Jessica Cantu of San Antonio Brandies, 211-201, for title.
