ARLINGTON, Texas – The 2017 United States Bowling Congress Convention and Annual Meeting kicks off at The Orleans in Las Vegas late Monday afternoon and the four-day event will feature educational seminars, presentations of national awards and scholarships, USBC Hall of Fame inductions, and legislative sessions.

A late-afternoon seminar by the Rules team on Monday will look at rule amendments that will be voted on later in the week, plus the always-popular rules quiz and a special interactive demonstration.

The Convention goes into high gear on Tuesday when a special guest speaker kicks off the morning. Seminars and networking opportunities for delegates will be held throughout the day with the Delegate Welcome Reception scheduled for Tuesday evening.

Wednesday’s schedule will feature additional seminars before delegates will have the opportunity to hear from the candidates running for the USBC Board of Directors during the Meet the Candidates session. The opening session of the USBC Annual Meeting starts Wednesday afternoon.

The USBC Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony will take place Wednesday evening.  This year’s inductees are David Ozio of Beaumont, Texas, for Superior Performance, and Mike Shady of Girard, Pennsylvania, for Outstanding USBC Performance. The Annual Meeting continues Thursday morning with presentations of national youth awards and scholarships, including the USBC National Recognition Awards and the Alberta E. Crowe and Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow Awards, with board elections and the legislative session set for Thursday afternoon.

Delegates will vote on three open positions on the USBC Board of Directors. Incumbents Jo Dimond of Columbus, Ohio, and Karl Kielich of El Paso, Texas, are among the four candidates slated by the USBC Nominating Committee and both seek their third and final terms on the board. Also slated are Glenda Beckett of Palmetto Bay, Florida, and Adam Mitchell of Reston, Virginia. The USBC Nominating Committee can slate up to two candidates for each open position on the board.

Of the 15 proposed amendments to be decided by delegates, two proposals are for league rules, eight proposals are for tournament rules and five are bylaws proposals. Among the notable proposals for league and tournament rules is to allow leagues and tournament directors the option to cap a handicap game at 300 and to cap a handicap series at 900. A notable bylaw proposal is to change the formula that determines the number of delegates each association can send to the USBC Convention.
