2024 Junior Gold Notebook - Round 2

DETROIT – Competitors completed their second of four four-game qualifying blocks at the 2024 Junior Gold Championships Tuesday in Detroit, and a few bowlers had themselves an amazing day on the lanes as the cut line starts to take shape.
Junior Team USA member Kaitlyn Stull of Raleigh, North Carolina, averaged over 270 with games of 268, 257, 279 and 278 for a whopping 1,082 total, setting a U18 division qualifying record for boys and girls since the division was introduced in 2021. She bounced back in a big way after ending Round 1 with 729 and now leads U18 Girls through two rounds of qualifying.
“I came into today more relaxed, determined and motivated,” said Stull. “I’ve learned over the years I can’t let a bad day get to me, it was only day 1 of Junior Gold and there’s a lot more bowling left.”
U18 BOYS
Dawson Peterson of Stewartville, Minnesota, holds the overall lead at 1,875 after a Round 2 block of 980.
For Peterson, Junior Gold was where he has met and made a lot of his bowling friends, as well as finding out about the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater. He will attend Whitewater this upcoming fall.
“I’ve met pretty much all of my friends at Junior Gold,” said Peterson, who is making his fifth Junior Gold appearance, with his first in 2019. “I’m really excited to start at Whitewater and be in a team environment, it’s been a few years since I’ve been a part of a team like that.”
Quinn Tillman is second with an overall total of 1,808 and Keaton Ostrowski sits in third at 1,806. Garrett Nelson of Lucedale, Mississippi, and Gabe Castro of Orland Park, Illinos round out the top five with 1,772 and 1,769, respectively.
191 U18 Boys will make the Advancers Round and there is a three-way tie for 191st at 1,566.
U18 GIRLS
Stull leads U18 Girls while Taylor Kretz of Erie, Pennsylvania, is second with 1,733 and Eliana Occhino of Fulton, New York, sits in third at 1,705. Amelia Droste of Greensburg, Pennsylvania (1,700) and Melia Mitskavich of Du Bois, Pennsylvania (1,680) round out the top five, respectively.
78 U18 Girls will continue on to the Advancers Round, where the current cut is held by Lorelai Leskoske of Syracuse, New York, at 1,486.
U15 BOYS
Ewan Oester of Portland, Oregon, held on to the overall lead for the second consecutive day, shooting 872 to add to his 1,012 from Round 1 and is now at an overall total of 1,884. Peyton Schley of Hegins, Pennsylvania, is second with an overall total of 1,851.
Brody Dilla of Pittsburgh (1,814) and Jackson Alexander Veitch of Edinburg, Virginia (1,812) close out the top five, respectively.
Adam Dubois of Holt, Michigan, and Mateo Ruiz of Boynton Beach, Florida, made memories they won’t forget, shooting the competition’s second and third 300 games during Round 2. This was Dubois and Ruiz’s first honor scores of their careers, helping Dubois jump up the standings to 63rd after a Round 1 total of 741, while Ruiz had a round total of 1,050 and is now ninth.
88 U15 Boys will move on to the Advancers Round after qualifying, and Eric Taber Jr. of Schenectady, New York, holds the cut number at 1,584.
U15 GIRLS
Lindsay Greim of Poway, California, now holds the U15 Girls overall lead with 1,681 after shooting 818 in Round 2 of qualifying. Baylie Massingill of Troy, Ohio, is second with an overall total of 1,640 while Anna Antony of Farmington, Connecticut, sits third with 1,627.
Bella Castillo of Odessa, Texas (1,623) and Zoe Skinner of Crystal, Minnesota (1,612) round out the top five in, respectively.
43 U15 Girls will move on to the Advancers Round and the current cut is held by Tiffany Mccarthy of Rochester, New York, with 1,407.
U12 BOYS
Eli Franco of Fishers, Indiana, took the overall lead with an 820 block total today and is now at 1,654 overall. Nehemiah Keefer is second with an overall total of 1,582, Tyce Wilds is third with 1,568, Eason Taylor of Chicago is fourth at 1,556 and Vincent Cintron fifth at 1,530.
30 U12 Boys will advance to the next round and Corvin Klein of Ionia, Michigan holds the last spot in at 1,342.
The youngest competitor in this year’s event is Whitley Gliko of Great Falls, Montana, competing at six years old in U12 Boys.
U12 GIRLS
Alyssa Randisi of Brooklyn, New York, has now held the lead for two straight rounds, adding 726 today and is at 1,587 overall through eight games. Aliyana Debina-Gasper of Mililani, Hawaii, is second with 1,468 and third is Bryonna Camp of Brick, New Jersey, with 1,444.
Rounding out the top five is Olivia Titus of St. Charles, Missouri, and Lea Besevic of Machesney Park, Illinois, with 1,430 and 1,420, respectively.
17 U12 Girls will move on to the Advancers Round after qualifying and Kalyne Wood of Mount Morris, Minnesota, is the cut number at 1,277.
Qualifying in Detroit continues Wednesday with Round 3, BowlTV will continue to stream qualifying, advancer rounds and match play until the live TV finals are taped for CBS Sports Network.
