Bond leads qualifying at 2025 PWBA Rochester Open

Qualifying Results

ROCHESTER, N.Y.
– The first event of the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour Championship Week held at ABC Gates Bowl in Rochester, New York, got started today with qualifying for the Rochester Open.

Leading the way was Julia Bond of Aurora, Illinois, averaging over 238 for 12 games for a final total of 2,863 as she seeks her first title since 2021. Second heading into match play is Player of the Year frontrunner New Hui Fen of Singapore with 2,799 while third is Stefanie Johnson of McKinney, Texas. Singapore’s Cherie Tan (2,785) and Bailey Delrose of Crest Hill, Illinois (2,774), are fourth and fifth, respectively.

The rest of the match play field will include Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton, Ohio (2,727); Lauren Russo of O’Fallon, Missouri (2,690); Olivia Farwell of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania (2,671); Bryanna Coté of Tucson, Arizona, and Ukraine’s Dasha Kovalova (tied with 2,652); Brianna Andrew of Grand Rapids, Michigan (2,649); and Jordan Snodgrass of Adrian, Michigan (2,647).

For Bond, she was excited just to be back at ABC Gates Bowl and attack today’s 50-foot pattern.

“I knew we were going to experience a lot of hook, regardless of what was put out,” Bond said. “I could not worry about my speed and throw it as hard as I want, playing into my strengths. It allowed me to just have trust in myself, make the right moves and come out leading.”

The Nebraska alum and coach had early success in her career, winning all three of her titles in 2021, and is still learning how to navigate the challenges of the tour life.

“Having all this success at one time and then going through the grind that everyone goes through was figuring out what I want my tour experience to look like,” she said. “It felt like I lost track of myself and how I go about things, so this season I really wanted to dedicate it to me. It’s doing stuff I want to do, going out when I want to go out or not go out, it’s been nice to listen to what I need and I feel like that’s translated well this season.”

Indeed, that focus on herself has led Bond to five match-play appearances, three top-12 finishes and seven cashes this season so far, wtih an opportunity to capture a win tomorrow if she continues her excellent bowling from today.

The first round of round-robin match play will start tomorrow at 9 a.m. Eastern while the second round begins at 2 p.m. Eastern, where the top five after Round 2 advance to the stepladder finals at 6:30 p.m. Eastern to determine the first winner of the week. Watch the rest of the event only on BowlTV.
