2025 U22 Masters and Queens set to begin in Detroit
May 22, 2025

DETROIT – For the second year in a row, more than 225 of the nation’s top young bowlers have traveled to the Greater Detroit area to compete in the United States Bowling Congress U22 Masters and Queens, which kick off on Friday and run through Memorial Day.
Unlike last year’s inaugural event where each tournament was held in a different bowling center until the stepladder finals, the 2025 U22 Masters and Queens both will be contested in their entirety at historic Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park.
Each event’s official practice sessions will take place on Friday morning with tournament competition at both the Masters and Queens getting underway later that day with seven games of A Squad qualifying starting at 11 a.m. Eastern and B Squad following with their own seven-game blocks at 5 p.m. Eastern.
All competitors will return for a second seven-game qualifying block on Saturday with B Squad hitting the lanes at 10 a.m. Eastern and A Squad wrapping things up at 4 p.m. Eastern.
After the completion of 14 games of qualifying, each tournament’s field will be whittled down to just 32 competitors. Those bowlers will advance to the bracket-match-play portion of their respective events.
U22 Masters match play will begin Sunday morning at 8 a.m. Eastern with U22 Queens bracket competition following at noon Eastern.
All matches in both tournaments will be two games with total pinfall determining the winner. A player will be eliminated from the competition upon losing his or her second match.
Five rounds of matches will be contested in each tournament on Sunday with just the top eight players in each event surviving and advancing to the final day of competition on Monday.
Three additional rounds of matches will take place Monday morning beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern, after which just three players in each field will remain in contention for the 2025 U22 Masters and Queens titles.
Those bowlers will advance to the finals, which will be contested at Strobl Arena inside Thunderbowl Lanes and streamed live on BowlTV on Memorial Day starting at 2 p.m. Eastern.
All six of those bowlers will be hoping to walk away with their event’s title and first-place trophy.
However, while winning will be top priority for all competitors, titles and trophies won’t be the only thing on the line during the U22 Masters and Queens.
Athletes competing in Detroit this week have extra incentive to author their best performances as the USBC Team USA Athlete Advisory Council has approved awarding a total of eight spots on Junior Team USA to top finishers at the 2025 U22 Masters and Queens.
The AAC, which is made up of current or former tenured Team USA athletes, supported that berths on Junior Team USA 2026 will go to the top three age-eligible finishers after the qualifying rounds at both the U22 Masters and Queens and to each tournament’s champion.
If the champion has already acquired a spot or is not age eligible, the fourth and final Junior Team USA position up for grabs at each event will be given to the next-highest age-eligible finisher after the qualifying rounds.
Age-eligible athletes will be those who have not reached their 21st birthday by Jan. 1, 2026.
Brandon Bohn of Jackson, New Jersey, would certainly love to secure one of those berths just as he did last year when he topped a strong field to become the inaugural U22 Masters champion.
Bohn will come to Thunderbowl Lanes looking to complete a successful title defense and get back in the winner’s circle after suffering a lot of near misses at events this past season.
“I’ve had a lot of seconds and thirds recently,” Bohn said. “I want to win again. I want that feeling because there’s nothing better than winning in front of your family and friends. Winning again would prove to me that hard work pays off. I don’t know if break-through is the right word because I’ve accomplished way more than I’d ever imagined, but to walk through that door again would mean a lot to me.”
After taking some much needed time off at the conclusion of the 2025 USBC Collegiate season – Bohn bowls for 2024 Intercollegiate Team Championships men’s champion Webber International University - Bohn feels refreshed and ready to make a run.
“I felt drained after the collegiate season,” Bohn said. “This year was tough, and we had a really rough ride at the end of our season. It was physically and mentally tough, draining. I wanted to take some time away, so I bowled once in three weeks.
“Life got in the way. I’m not using that as an excuse, but sometimes it’s good to have a break. I took that break, am getting back into it and hopefully we put in enough work to have it pay off and have more pins than everyone else come the weekend.”
While Bohn will have the opportunity to complete a successful title defense at the U22 Masters, there will definitely be a new U22 Queens champion in 2025 as inaugural champion Dannielle Henderson of Jacksonville, Alabama, won’t be competing this year due to time constraints brought about by a collegiate internship opportunity.
Although Henderson will be missed, her absence gives nearly 100 talented bowlers the opportunity to break through and become the newest U22 Queens champion.
All rounds of competition at both the U22 Masters and Queens will be streamed live exclusively on BowlTV.
