GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – One day after winning gold and silver medals in doubles, the Junior Team USA men earned gold in U21 Men’s Trios at the 2025 PANAM Bowling Youth Championship in Guatemala on Wednesday.
The American men’s trio of Brandon Bohn of Jackson, New Jersey; Josh Hammons of Topeka, Kansas; and Ernesto Reynoso of Folsom, California, reached the top of the standings at Metrobowl Zone 15 in Guatemala City thanks to a six-game total of 4,081, an average of 226.72 per bowler per game.
Bohn led the way with 1,511 (a 251.83 average) thanks to games of 234, 278, 247, 208, 244 and 300. Hammons was next in line at 1,411 (235, 257, 246, 242, 227 and 204) while Reynoso contributed 1,159 (209, 214, 214, 169, 194 and 159).
The Canadian squad of Adan Jodoin, Mathis Blanchette and Matys Bibeau earned the silver medal with 3,692, which left Jose Urias, Eduardo Figueroa and Luis Perez of Mexico to settle for bronze with 3,618.
In U21 Women’s Trios competition on Wednesday, Junior Team USA’s Gianna Brandolino of Channahon, Illinois; Erin Klemencic of Powder Springs, Georgia; and Jillian Martin of Stow, Ohio, walked away with fourth place thanks to a six-game mark of 3,449.
Martin had the best day among American women, posting an 1,184 block total on games of 212, 211, 191, 201, 166 and 203. Klemencic added 1,154 (201, 210, 183, 172, 215 and 173) and Brandolino finished with 1,111 (182, 163, 184, 171, 183 and 228).
Mexico’s Maria Lopez, Andrea Perez and Ivanna Villalobos captured gold thanks to a mark of 3,621.
Colombia’s trio of Maria Molina, Sara Duque and Nicole Ortiz took silver with 3,512, and Elena Weinstok, Alejandra Sandoval and Emma Barrantes of Costa Rica earned bronze with 3,501.
Americans Annalise OBryant of Ball Ground, Georgia, and Landin Jordan of Sycamore, Illinois, didn’t compete in trios on Wednesday, but each rolled six games to continue adding to their totals in the U21 All-Events competitions.
OBryant managed a six-game total of 1,205 (175, 196, 235, 215, 169 and 215) on Day 3 while Jordan came in with 1,204 (180, 201, 182, 215, 241 and 185).
Even though the Junior Team USA men won the gold medal handily, Hammons definitely noticed some differences in how the tournament’s 44-foot oil pattern played for he and his teammates on Wednesday.
“The lanes were definitely different today, especially on the pairs on the high end of the house,” Hammons said. “On the fresh, it was a little tighter, and then the end pairs were hooking a significant amount more, but we just adjusted and stuck to our gameplan.”
The lane-play differences impacted Reynoso as well, which is why he was grateful to have two strong teammates like Hammons and Bohn to back him up.
“Reactive didn’t look that great, so I just rode it out as best I could and jumped on the backs of Brandon (Bohn) and Josh (Hammons) today,” Reynoso said. “Still, I did the best I could, and I’m excited about the win; it feels pretty good.”
Bohn has certainly been feeling good thus far. After all, the 21-year-old left-hander has won three gold medals in three days – singles, doubles and trios – and is leading the U21 Men’s All-Events standings by more than 300 pins with two days of competition remaining.
Nevertheless, those two days will be dedicated to the team event, which is the competition Bohn wants to win most of all.
“Everything that’s happened the last three days has been great, but now we get to bowl the team event, which is what we came here for,” Bohn said. “We’re just going to go out there tomorrow and Friday and give it our all for six games and hope it’s enough.”
Martin and the Junior Team USA ladies will adopt a similar approach.
“There was a lot more urethane on the lanes today, which isn’t something we usually see as much of on the women’s side,” Martin said. “That tripped us up a little bit, but we’re going to learn and grow so that we can be better tomorrow and Friday and hopefully try to win another gold medal.”
Teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions will roll one three-game block on Thursday and their final three games on Friday, which will be the final day of competition at this year’s tournament.
Once competition has been completed and all medals have been doled out, the closing ceremony will officially bring the 2025 PANAM Bowling Youth Championship to an end.
The PANAM Bowling Youth Championship is Junior Team USA’s second competition of 2025 as Katelyn Abigania of San Diego and Connor Fleming of Fort Worth, Texas, represented Junior Team USA at the International Bowling Federation Youth World Cup in Helsingborg, Sweden, in June. Abigania placed 10th at that event while Fleming finished 23rd.
